The MIIT, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, has released the first images of the BYD Yuan UP, a new compact electric SUV from the Chinese brand that will debut in its home country in the first half of 2024.

This B-segment SUV will likely also make its way to Europe, where it could find success among other beloved battery-powered vehicles, such as the Jeep Avenger, Fiat 600e, and Volvo EX30. The price will also be competitive: in China, it will be less than 100,000 yuan, approximately 96.600 DKK / 146.268 SEK / 152.803 NOK. In Europe, it might have a similar price to the BYD Dolphin, starting from 230.715 DKK in Denmark and 429.900 SEK in Sweden. And like the BYD Dolphin, Car of the Year in Denmark 2024, coul have a great success in Scandinavian and European market.

BYD Yuan UP, new in the Dynasty

In Europe, it might be called BYD Atto 2, although it won’t retain the Chinese name Yuan UP. The use of the name Yuan, along with its aesthetic features, suggests that in Europe, it could be named BYD Atto 2, maintaining a connection with BYD Atto 3.

BYD Atto 3 is referred to as BYD Yuan Plus in China. The European nomenclature, easier to pronounce (maybe) but perhaps less meaningful, loses some charm. Indeed, BYD Yuan UP, Yuan Plus, and the larger Yuan Pro are part of the Dynasty series, where all vehicles take their names from famous Chinese emperors.

Compared to Atto 3, it appears more appealing and cohesive. It has dimensions of 4.3 meters in length, 1.8 meters in width, and 1.6 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.6 meters. It is slightly larger than the mentioned competitors but smaller, for example, than the Zeekr X, which reaches 4.4 meters.

According to the initial information released by the ministry, it will have two motor configurations: the first with 70 kW or 95 horsepower, and the more powerful one with 130 kW or 177 horsepower, both produced by BYD, along with the typical Blade LFP batteries of the brand. The curb weight is also interesting, at 1.4 tons for the entry-level version and 1.5 tons for the more powerful one.
