The last weekend of June 2026 is one Scandinavia will remember for a long time. Temperatures climbed to 38°C, a level not recorded in the region for years, and the entire automotive world had gathered in Båstad, a seaside resort in Scania in southwestern Sweden. The town is usually known for its Danish and Norwegian summer houses and for the Norrviken Gardens with their historic villa, already well worth a visit for the exhibitions, landscaped grounds and restaurant. For the past three years the venue has also hosted The Aurora Concours, Scandinavia’s own take on a concours d’elegance dedicated to the world’s most exclusive cars.
The 2026 edition marked the event’s third year, and its rapid rise to must attend status among enthusiasts showed in the guest list. Virtually every major manufacturer was present, from BMW and Mercedes Benz to Pagani, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche, with Vogue Scandinavia as the event’s main media partner.
Several awards were handed out over the weekend. Best of Show in the classic category went to the Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB, while the hypercar Best of Show was awarded to the Mercedes Benz CLK GTR. The real crown, though, belonged to Koenigsegg, which brought virtually its entire history and current lineup to Sweden.
Thirty years of history in a single weekend
Christian von Koenigsegg attended in person, fittingly so, as 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the brand’s very first car, the 1996 Koenigsegg CC Prototype XP 001. The prototype stood alongside the CC8S, the company’s first production model, and the CCGT, the GT1 racing project that never reached competition after a change in regulations.
Appropriately, the class award for Best Hypercar went to those two cars: the XP 001, where it all began, and the CCGT, the great missed opportunity that remains one of modern motorsport’s most fascinating what if stories.
The latest additions to the Koenigsegg family were also on display. The Sadair’s Spear made its first appearance anywhere in the world as a customer delivered car. Beside it stood the Gemera, the world’s first four seat hypercar, which Christian von Koenigsegg describes as a Mega GT. The unit on show was the first production spec example, confirming that what began as an ambitious concept is now a genuine production vehicle, and a striking one at that.

Completing the Swedish lineup was the Jesko Attack TYR no. 7555, winner of both the President’s Award and the Performance Driving Award following the Aurora Tour, a road rally with 75 cars that explored southern Sweden in the days before the concours. With a claimed 1,600 horsepower and the high downforce Attack specification, the Jesko was a reminder, even among the manicured lawns, that Koenigsegg remains above all a company obsessed with outright performance.
A Lego car faster than a city car
Koenigsegg also brought along its collaboration with Lego, a life size Sadair’s Spear built entirely from Danish bricks that had made its debut just weeks earlier at Goodwood.
Built to celebrate the launch of a new Lego Technic set dedicated to the Swedish hypercar, a kit made up of 4,104 pieces, the full scale replica is fully drivable and made almost entirely from bricks. It uses close to 328,000 individual elements, weighs around 1,800 kg, of which roughly 400 kg is plastic alone, and took more than 9,400 hours to design and assemble. It even features functional touches such as Ghost Mode, which opens the doors, front and rear clamshells and mirrors simultaneously with a single command.

Behind the wheel was Markus Lundh, Koenigsegg’s official test driver, who had set the Goodwood record with the real Sadair’s Spear the previous year. Driving the brick built version on the same hillclimb course used for the Festival of Speed, he reached 111 km/h, faster than typical urban traffic speeds and more than double the previous record for a large Lego Technic vehicle, which stood at 50 km/h with the McLaren P1.
The Italian car with a Swedish heart
Koenigsegg’s influence at Aurora extended well beyond its own cars. Another machine that stood out was the Kimera K39 Pikes Peak, the latest creation from Italy’s Kimera Automobili, arriving in Båstad fresh from winning the Design Award for Concept Cars and Prototypes at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
The K39 was developed specifically for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, but the most interesting detail sits beneath its bodywork. Its bespoke twin turbocharged V8 was developed by Koenigsegg exclusively for Kimera. Visually the car is every bit as extreme, finished in a Martini Racing inspired livery that pays tribute to the legendary Group 5 Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo.

Mother M and the future M3
Another standout belonged to BMW, which unveiled the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse, a highly distinctive design that previews the brand’s first fully electric M3. The concept was driven during the event, giving spectators a chance to hear BMW’s newly developed artificial soundscape, which proved remarkably convincing.
The setting helped. Surrounding the concept were some of BMW M’s greatest icons, from the original E30 M3 introduced in 1986, another anniversary being celebrated this year, to the legendary E46 M3, immortalized by Need for Speed Most Wanted, and finally the M3 Touring, the first M3 designed with family practicality in mind.

The Italians were equally well represented. Pagani brought the Utopia, Lamborghini showcased the Fenomeno Roadster, while Ferrari displayed the Amalfi Spider, the F80 and several of the marque’s greatest masterpieces. Dallara was present too, alongside Alfa Romeo with the Giulia GTAm, and Lotus.
In other words, this was anything but a minor festival.
