Rockstar has published a large new gallery of GTA 6 screenshots to mark the final stretch before launch. Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on Thursday 19 November on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC date confirmed yet.

What the new screenshots show

The gallery, available on Rockstar’s official site, gives a clear look at the game’s visual ambitions. Protagonist Jason changes hairstyle more often than a 2000s football star, and the close ups show a level of facial detail that suggests a real step forward for the engine. Skin, stubble and expressions look noticeably more convincing than in most current games.

A rave scene points to a technology able to handle very large crowds, while the usual ingredients of the series are all present: face tattoos, handguns and plenty of scowls.

A superbike in the rain

For motoring fans, one image stands out. Jason leans a superbike hard into a corner on a wet road, knee almost touching the tarmac, wearing jeans and a T-shirt with no helmet. It is hardly a lesson in road safety, but it shows the tone of the game.

Why this launch matters

GTA 6 is Rockstar’s new open world crime game, widely described as one of the most anticipated entertainment releases ever. The games industry is coming out of five difficult years marked by acquisitions, studio closures, the pandemic, the rising cost of living and the arrival of AI.

Many in the sector are hoping for a major commercial success that brings investors back and confirms that the way to make money is to make good games. That is why every detail counts, stubble included.

The countdown is almost over: GTA 6 launches on 19 November.
