EuroNCAP has released its latest round of safety results—and the outcome has surprised the entire industry. Several Chinese EVs (or Chinese-built evs) now sit at the top of Europe’s safety rankings, outperforming long-established Western brands in occupant protection, crash performance, and driver-assistance technology.
For years, Chinese automakers lagged behind their European and American competitors in safety engineering. The latest EuroNCAP evaluation round, which included 23 new vehicles, shows that those days are over. Chinese models have made substantial gains across all measured categories — adult protection, child protection, vulnerable road user safety, and active assistance systems — marking a major shift in the global automotive landscape.

Leapmotor B10 sets a new benchmark
The standout performer of this round is the Leapmotor B10, a compact EV developed with support from Stellantis. Key results:
- 93% adult occupant protection
- 93% child occupant protection
- 85% safety assistance systems
- Overall: Five-star Euro NCAP rating
These scores placed the B10 ahead of several notable competitors in the same test cycle, including the Volvo EX90. The B10 also outscored the Mercedes‑Benz CLE and the Hongqi EHS7, as well as fellow Chinese models such as the BYD Seal 6 and the latest Tesla Model Y. All four Chinese vehicles evaluated in this round received the maximum five-star rating.
The overall rankings and China’s rising influence
At the top of Euro NCAP’s general ranking remains the Tesla Model 3 built in China, driven by consistently high scores across all categories. Close behind is the Nio Firefly, which achieved an exceptional 96% occupant protection rating—the highest ever recorded by Euro NCAP.
Other leading models include the Tesla Model Y, the Smart #5, and the BYD Seal 6, underlining the growing presence of Chinese manufacturers among Europe’s safest cars.
A new era in automotive safety
Euro NCAP’s latest results confirm a dramatic shift: Chinese brands are no longer safety outsiders—they are now helping to set new standards. Vehicles such as the Leapmotor B10 and Nio Firefly demonstrate real progress in engineering, crash performance, and intelligent assistance systems.
As European consumers consider their next EV purchase, the rising influence of Chinese automakers in safety rankings is likely to reshape expectations across the market and increase competition among global manufacturers striving for five-star status.
