Tesla has released further details on the European launch of the Semi, confirming specifications for the version built specifically for the European market. The fully electric truck, designed for efficient long haul transport, is pitched by Tesla as more powerful and more efficient than a traditional diesel truck, while also costing less to run.
The Semi will be on display at IAA Transportation in Hannover, Germany, from 14 to 20 September, giving European fleets, hauliers and the public their first look at the European specification truck. Customer deliveries in Europe are planned to begin in 2027, with further details expected in the coming months. Built as an EV from the ground up
Tesla built the Semi as an electric vehicle from scratch, aiming to reshape heavy transport by combining its battery, drivetrain, software and manufacturing expertise with the demands of modern logistics.
For fleet managers, Tesla frames the economics in simple terms: charging costs less per kilometre than diesel, and maintenance costs for battery electric trucks are significantly lower thanks to the absence of diesel exhaust treatment systems and the relative simplicity of an electric drivetrain. Remote diagnostics, over the air software updates and fewer moving parts to maintain mean less time at service centres and more time on the road. Tesla argues these savings can deliver a positive total cost of ownership for local and regional operators even before they would normally replace a diesel fleet.

Tesla says the Semi is built around class leading efficiency and long range suited to real world European duty cycles, from regional distribution to longer haul routes.
High power charging is designed with commercial operation in mind: the Semi can recover a significant share of its range during a short stop using Tesla’s Megacharging Network, helping keep trucks productive and on schedule. Tesla Megachargers form an ultra fast charging network intended to get drivers back on the road quickly, adding up to 60 percent range in 30 minutes.
Instant torque, three independent motors
Multiple independent motors deliver instant torque and strong power at any speed, letting drivers merge, keep pace with traffic and handle demanding gradients with confidence. Electric propulsion also provides smooth, predictable pulling power, without the noise, vibration or mechanical complexity of a traditional diesel drivetrain.
Lower cost of ownership
Tesla positions the Semi as a way to improve the underlying economics of trucking, pointing to lower energy costs per kilometre than diesel across many operating conditions, reduced maintenance thanks to fewer moving parts and no diesel exhaust treatment, remote diagnostics and over the air updates that continuously improve the vehicle, and less downtime with a simpler service experience over the truck’s lifetime.
