Shortly after launching its new electric Transit City van, Ford Pro has revealed a chassis variant that can be built into tippers, dropside trucks, box vans and refrigerated vehicles, among other conversions. The world premiere took place at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover.

A flexible base for businesses that need exactly what they need

Ford Pro has already opened orders for the Transit City, with first deliveries expected around the turn of the year. The new chassis variant is Ford’s first electric model in the 1 tonne segment that can be converted into a box van, dropside truck, refrigerated vehicle and more, developed together with Ford’s European network of more than 200 bodybuilders.

With up to 254 km of range, payload of up to 1,525 kg, and, according to Ford Pro’s own data, service costs up to 40 percent lower than comparable diesel vans, the Transit City is aimed at businesses that need an electric work vehicle without paying for more range or capacity than they actually require.

Box van and dropside conversions on show

At IAA, Ford Pro is showing the Transit City Chassis as a box van built together with Italian bodybuilder Scattolini, offering up to 10.4 m³ of load volume, a payload of up to 1,120 kg and a load length of 3,010 mm.

Ford is also displaying a practical electric dropside truck with payload up to 1,300 kg and a load bed measuring 3,130 x 2,000 mm, developed for uses including construction, municipal operations and other businesses that transport equipment and machinery.

Powering its own cooling units, tail lifts and hydraulics

A refrigerated vehicle concept built on the Transit City Chassis also demonstrates Ford’s new Electric Power Take-Off (ePTO) solution. From 2027, the Transit City Chassis will be able to deliver up to 3 kW of power directly from the vehicle’s battery to equipment such as refrigeration units, hydraulic tipping functions, tail lifts and high pressure pumps. The refrigerated concept sits close to the eventual production version, and is intended for deliveries such as food and pharmacy goods.

A fully fitted out Transit City L2 van is also on display in Hannover, kitted out by Sortimo, which supplies modular, customisable racking systems for both L1 and L2 van variants.

One order, one invoice

The Transit City Chassis becomes part of Ford Pro’s One-Stop Shop programme. From launch, the most common configurations, box van, dropside and a fitted out van, are available as ready made products, letting customers order a complete work vehicle directly from their local Ford Transit Centre. Both the vehicle and its conversion are ordered through the same dealer and delivered under a single invoice with matching warranty terms.

The newest member of the Transit family

The Transit City is the newest addition to Ford’s Transit lineup, developed specifically for transport work in cities and towns. It comes with a 56 kWh LFP battery, a 150 hp electric motor, and fast charging at up to 87 kW. According to Ford Pro’s own data, around 90 percent of comparable electric vans in this class travel under 110 km per day.

Standard equipment includes a 12.3 inch touchscreen, keyless start, a heated driver’s seat, adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera, lane change warning and automatic emergency braking.
