The IM L5 made its European debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025, but SAIC has smartly decided to integrate these models into the MG brand in the Old Continent, given the appreciation Europeans have shown for its cars and also because they are already familiar with the brand — hence the name change to MG IM5. The sedan debuts alongside the MG IM6 crossover.

The mid-size sedan will initially be available in Norway, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, but will arrive in other European markets, including Denmark and Sweden, in 2026.

MG IM5 and IM6: what we know so far

The MG IM5 and MG IM6 are respectively a sedan and an SUV representing the most innovative vehicles ever made by MG. The acronym IM, which is a standalone brand in China, stands for “Intelligence in Motion,” emphasizing the brand’s ambition to offer cutting-edge technology and distinctive design.

The MG IM5 Long Range promises up to 655 km of range on a single charge thanks to its 100 kWh battery pack and new 800V architecture, which allows charging from 10% to 80% in just 17 minutes — making it one of the fastest-charging electric cars in Europe.

Performance is equally impressive: the sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, while the MG IM6 SUV completes the same sprint in 3.5 seconds, thanks to its powerful Hurricane electric motor and digital chassis.

The cabins of the new MG IM5 and IM6 are a concentration of technology: highlights include Rainy Night Mode and a 4-level One Touch Park Assist system, which uses 360-degree cameras and autonomous driving functions to simplify parking maneuvers. City driving is also easier thanks to rear-wheel steering that gives the IM5 a tight turning radius of just 9.98 meters.

At the center of the dashboard is a massive 26.3″ ultra-HD infotainment screen, paired with a secondary 10.5″ touch display. All models feature a panoramic glass roof and a sophisticated sound system with 20 speakers, including four Sky Speakers mounted in the roof for an immersive audio experience. Comfort and quietness are ensured by custom-designed double laminated windows.
