The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 are here. But let me tell you right away—it’s the Fold 7 that truly steals the show this year, marking a significant evolution compared to the previous model we tested here.

At last, there are no more compromises between having an ultra-thin foldable and enjoying a top-tier software experience. In my opinion, Samsung’s One UI remains the best Android skin available, rivaled only by Google’s Pixel.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: It has learned a lot from the S25 Edge.

This year, the S25 Edge broke the mold by positioning itself as an ultra-light, thin phone with very few compromises (read here to find out why I loved it). With the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung reaches its seventh generation of foldables—and it shows. The design is incredibly sleek (that’s why I say “S25 Edge school”): just 8.9 mm thick when closed and 4.2 mm when open. Even more impressive is the weight: only 215 grams.  It’s about the size of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, slightly thicker, but the difference is barely noticeable in hand.

The camera module is positioned laterally rather than centrally. The phone features USB-C with DeX support, stereo speakers, dual SIM (including eSIM), and a precise balance in the opening mechanism—neither too stiff nor too loose.

On the side, you’ll find the power button with an integrated fingerprint sensor and volume controls, while two microphones sit at the top. The improved hinge—crafted from aerospace-grade aluminum (IP48)—allows for water resistance on par with the S25 Ultra, though it’s slightly less protected against dust.

The external display is now wider and shorter with a 21:9 aspect ratio, making it much more practical for everyday use.  Despite its compactness, the internal 8-inch display is where the Fold 7 shines. It’s not so much about watching videos—since content in 16:9 or 21:9 doesn’t perfectly fit the square-like display—but about productivity and multitasking. You can comfortably open Excel sheets, browse the web, and run multiple apps side by side, even with pop-up windows. It’s truly a pocket-sized productivity machine.

What’s Missing? The S Pen

To achieve this thinness, Samsung had to remove S Pen compatibility by eliminating the digitizer layer. According to their own surveys, 95% of users preferred a thinner device over pen support, and I can understand.

Cameras, Battery, and AI Features

The Fold 7 borrows its camera system from the Galaxy S25: a 200MP main sensor, a 10MP 3x telephoto, and a 12MP ultra-wide with a 122-degree field of view. However, there’s no 5x zoom this time. The full spec sheet shows all the details, but one point of criticism is the battery: 4400 mAh, which is a bit small when some rivals manage over 5000 mAh in similarly slim devices. Fast charging is capped at 25W.

On the plus side, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite (3nm) processor is incredibly efficient, so battery life might still surprise us. The device ships with Android 16, One UI 8, and guarantees seven years of updates. All the AI tools introduced with the S25 series are present, including AI call screening, live transcriptions, and more.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: finally a big cover screen

The new Galaxy Z Flip 7 is also here, available in blue, black, and a beautiful soft pink. The biggest upgrade is the external display: it’s now much larger with minimal bezels, allowing for widgets, notifications, and even apps like Gemini without opening the phone.

When unfolded, the Flip 7 reveals a 6.9-inch display. The fingerprint sensor remains in the power button.

It’s a little thicker than the Fold 7 but thinner than its predecessor. Powered by the Exynos 2400 (3nm), it offers solid performance. The dual-camera system and 4300 mAh battery deliver respectable specs for a flip device, though without major breakthroughs.

For those on a tighter budget, Samsung is also releasing the Flip 7 Fan Edition (FE), which features a slightly less powerful Exynos chip and maintains most of the Flip 6’s DNA at a lower price point.
