Going after Rolls-Royce and Bentley territory might sound like a stretch for a Korean brand, but Genesis is making a genuine attempt with the new GV90. Hyundai’s premium electric SUV is enormous (even more than Ioniq 9), finished with real attention to detail, and seriously powerful. It has been unveiled for the US market and other international markets, with no European launch confirmed at this stage, a decision that lines up with where large luxury electric SUVs like this one already sell best.
A design inspired by traditional Korean ceramics
One of the most interesting parts of the GV90 is where its design actually comes from. Genesis drew inspiration from the traditional Korean moon jar, a large ceramic vessel known for its rounded, deceptively simple shape, translating that language into a considerably larger, more imposing body.
The SUV measures 5.29 metres in length with a 3.25 metre wheelbase, and can be specified with forged 22 or 24 inch wheels. The front end carries Genesis’s signature twin line lighting, now reinterpreted through new Wing Face Micro Lens Array (MLA) headlights. The sides stay deliberately clean, while the rear light clusters sit flush with the bodywork.
Genesis GV90 Neolun brings rear doors that open against the wind
The standout version is the GV90 Neolun, fitted with what Genesis calls the Neolun Arch Gate system. Here, the central B-pillar is hidden entirely, and the rear doors open against the direction of travel, creating a notably wide opening.
Genesis developed a dual movement hinge specifically for this, letting the door move outward first before rotating, avoiding any interference with the front door.
A cabin built like a living room on wheels
The real step up happens inside. The GV90 uses a completely flat floor and offers three rows of seating, while the Neolun can be configured with just four seats instead. In that four seat layout, the front seats can rotate 180 degrees electrically whenever the vehicle is parked, turning the cabin into something closer to a mobile lounge.
Technology plays just as big a role. The infotainment system runs through a 23.6 inch OLED display, paired with a large 25 inch head-up display that puts information directly in the driver’s line of sight. The GV90 is also the first model to run Pleos Connect, Genesis’s new infotainment system built on Android Automotive.
Material choices lean firmly upmarket too, spanning natural wood, real stone, cashmere wool and leather. The Bang & Olufsen Premier 3D sound system runs through 25 speakers, while the seats pack 15 individual air cells along with dedicated massage functions. The range topping Neolun Executive Suite pushes the luxury angle even further, adding a real wood floor with radiant heating, a privacy partition, powered curtains, a built-in fridge, and a six zone Smart Vision Roof.
Genesis GV90 specs: a 123.5 kWh battery and 657 hp
Underneath the body sits Genesis’s eMP electric platform, developed specifically for the brand’s flagship models. The GV90 runs a 123.5 kWh battery, the largest ever fitted to an electric car from the wider Hyundai Motor Group.
Two electric motors, one on each axle, combine for 657 hp and 800 Nm of peak torque. Genesis quotes roughly 500 km of range for the seven seat version, with DC fast charging reaching up to 350 kW, enough to take the battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 22 minutes.
The GV90 also features electronically locking differentials on both axles, multi-chamber air suspension, electronically controlled dampers and rear wheel steering, with the rear wheels able to turn up to 5 degrees, helping keep a vehicle stretching over five metres genuinely manageable to drive.

A first edition arrives alongside launch
Genesis has not yet announced US pricing or confirmed full international availability details. Launch will be accompanied by a particularly exclusive version, the GV90 Neolun First Edition, adding two tone exterior paint, forged 24 inch wheels, cashmere wool trim and specific interior and exterior details. It will be offered in three colour combinations: Jaipur Rose with Seychelles Beige, Vik Black with Baena Green, and Vik Black with Sonoran Navy.
