Geely, the Chinese giant that owns Volvo, Lotus, Zeekr, Polestar, Lynk & Co, and others, does not currently sell cars under its own brand or the Galaxy brand in Europe. However, the Galaxy E8, the new model from the all-electric Galaxy brand, is intriguing in its own way. Especially because it goes faster than a Taycan GTS, at a price in China of around €25,000.

It stands out for its extravagant interiors, featuring a massive 8K OLED display that will delight technology enthusiasts.

The new Geely Galaxy E8

Initially conceived as a new brand, Galaxy was later kept under the Geely Auto brand as a sub-family, similar to Hyundai’s Ioniq range. Then, Geely reversed its decision, making it an independent brand with its own logo and website. It’s the typical Geely strategy of launching brands every now and then.

In any case, the sedan is built on the group’s SEA platform and is related to numerous models from Volvo, Zeekr, Polestar, Smart, and Lotus. Aesthetically, it adopts the design of the Galaxy Light concept, soft, with slim headlights, elongated hood, aerodynamic wheels, and a well-thought-out design to achieve an aerodynamic coefficient of 0.199, second only to the Xiaomi SU7 in this regard. It also positions itself as a maneuverable car that, despite its mass, is enjoyable to drive due to excellent weight distribution.

Externally unassuming, the car becomes more interesting inside, where it boasts a 45-inch 8K OLED screen, only 10 mm thick, standing out from the crowd. Additionally, it is the second model to use Meizu’s Flyme system after the Lynk & Co 08 (Geely acquired Meizu in 2022), serving as the Chinese giant’s response to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Apart from the screen, there is a two-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel reminiscent of Tesla’s.

The technology is complemented by NOA 2.0, Navigate on Autopilot, with some of the most advanced ADAS systems: adaptive cruise control, automatic parking, and semi-automatic pilot, all based on 11 satellites launched by Geely into orbit. In addition, there is Augmented Reality Head-Up Display and a 12-speaker Infinity audio system.

Up to 645 hp

The Geely Galaxy E8 has a power of up to 645 hp in the AWD version, and the two versions are quite different. The base model has a 400 Volt system, with a single rear electric motor producing 272 hp and 0-100 km/h in 5.95 seconds. The AWD version, on the other hand, features an 800 Volt platform, with two electric motors totaling 645 hp and 0-100 km/h in 3.49 seconds, outperforming even the Zeekr 001 and Polestar and Volvo models, and with a faster acceleration than the Porsche Taycan GTS. In terms of charging, it can recover 180 km in five minutes.
