The shortlist for Car of the Year in Denmark 2027 (Årets Bil i Danmark) is set, and this year the race for the title is entirely electric. After two days of test drives on and around FDM Jyllandsringen near Silkeborg, the 24 jury members cast their votes, narrowing a field of 35 entries down to seven finalists, representing eight cars.

The only two petrol-powered candidates, the Honda Prelude and the Mazda CX-5, did not make the cut. Instead, the final brings together small EVs priced below DKK 200,000, large family cars and a Chinese performance estate, a clear sign of how broad the electric car market has become.

The seven finalists

BMW iX3 – The first production model built on BMW’s Neue Klasse technology arrives with impressive numbers: a range of up to 805 km and charging at up to 400 kW, good for 10–80 percent in around 21 minutes under ideal conditions. It also introduces BMW’s new Panoramic iDrive and the “Heart of Joy” control system for powertrain and chassis.

Cupra Raval – The more spirited sister of the Volkswagen ID. Polo starts at DKK 199,990, with a range of up to 444 km depending on the version. The range-topping Raval VZ has 226 hp and a sportier set-up, combining affordable EV technology with a more playful chassis and design.

Renault Twingo E-Tech – The cheapest finalist, from DKK 146,990, is built first and foremost for the city. Its 27.5 kWh battery, 80 hp motor and official range of up to 263 km may sound modest, but low weight, low consumption and a price that can compete with small petrol cars make it one of the most interesting cars in the final.

Skoda Epiq – Smaller than the Elroq but cleverly packaged, the compact SUV targets a segment where Skoda has always been strong. The Epiq 35 starts at DKK 189,995, while the Epiq 55 costs from DKK 219,995 and offers an official range of around 430–441 km.

Toyota bZ4X Touring / Subaru E-Outback – Two cars, one finalist. The two models are so closely related that the jury judges them together. The stretched Touring version is more practical than the regular bZ4X, with a range of up to 591 km and a generous 669-litre boot.

Volkswagen ID. Polo – The Polo name is back, this time without a petrol engine. Prices start at DKK 189,995, range is between 315 and 454 km, and despite a length of just over four metres the boot holds 441 litres. The large-battery version charges from 10 to 80 percent in around 24 minutes.

Zeekr 7GT – The Chinese entry is a low, sporty estate combining space with serious performance. Prices start at DKK 324,900, range reaches up to 655 km, and the all-wheel-drive version does 0–100 km/h in 3.3 seconds. Its 800-volt system allows 10–80 percent charging in as little as 13 minutes on a powerful enough fast charger.
