MG is expanding into the electric bus market with the new iEV12, a fully electric low-floor bus designed for urban and public transport. With a claimed range of more than 400 km, the new model combines a large battery, low-floor accessibility and modern driver-assistance technology.

MG is taking another step into the commercial vehicle market with the introduction of the MG iEV12, a new fully electric bus developed for passenger transport.

The 12-metre-long bus is designed around MG’s new-generation B12E chassis and uses a Cell-to-Pack battery combined with a high-efficiency direct-drive electric propulsion system.

More than 400 km of range

One of the key features of the MG iEV12 is its claimed driving range.

With the largest available battery configuration, MG states that the bus can travel more than 400 km under e-SORT 1 test conditions.

The bus also supports different charging solutions, including opportunity charging and socket charging, allowing operators to adapt the charging strategy to their individual routes and daily operations.

12 metres long and fully electric

The MG iEV12 measures 12,150 mm in length, 2,550 mm in width and 3,200 mm in height.

It has a 6,000 mm wheelbase and a gross vehicle weight of up to 19.5 tonnes.

Despite its size, MG states that the bus has a minimum turning diameter of 22 metres or less, while the maximum gradeability is rated at 25 percent.

Designed for easy passenger access

Accessibility is another important part of the iEV12.

The bus uses a full low-floor design, with the first passenger step positioned no more than 340 mm above the ground.

MG also offers optional electric and manual accessibility ramps, making it easier for passengers with reduced mobility to board the bus.

Inside the driver’s area, the iEV12 features an integrated cockpit with an ergonomic workstation designed around the needs of the driver.

Safety technology

The new electric bus is also equipped with MG’s Cityguard safety assistance systems, which are designed to improve safety around the vehicle and support the driver in urban traffic.

Combined with passive safety systems and the new-generation chassis, MG says the technology is intended to provide an all-round safety package for both passengers and drivers.

A new direction for MG

The iEV12 represents a significant expansion of the MG brand beyond passenger cars.

While MG has established itself in Europe with electric cars, hybrids and petrol-powered models, the iEV12 takes the brand into the growing market for electric public transport.

With its 12-metre format, low-floor construction and more than 400 km of claimed range, the iEV12 is designed primarily with urban and regional bus operators in mind.

MG has not yet announced detailed pricing or market-specific specifications for all European countries. However, the iEV12 shows that the brand is looking beyond passenger cars as it expands its electric vehicle portfolio in Europe.
