Samsung is moving closer to the official debut of One UI 8.5. In the past few hours, the company has started distributing Beta 5 of the new software to users of the Samsung Galaxy S25 in several markets, including India, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The timing strongly suggests that this could be the last beta build before the stable release, which is widely expected to coincide with the launch of the next-generation Galaxy S lineup.
Firmware details and availability
The update is currently rolling out with the following build numbers:
- United States (unlocked models): S93xU1UEU7ZZAN – 547.48 MB
- India: S93xBXXEU7ZZAN / S93xBOXM7ZZAN / S93xBXXU7CZAJ – 553.08 MB
The relatively small package size indicates that this is a minor refinement rather than a feature-packed release. In fact, the official changelog lists only a single entry: an update to Bixby.
Bixby at the center of Samsung’s AI strategy
While the changelog may look minimal, the Bixby update could be more significant than it appears. Samsung has ambitious plans for its virtual assistant, aiming to evolve it into a next-generation AI-powered platform.
The revamped Bixby is expected to integrate advanced generative AI capabilities, potentially leveraging technology from Perplexity. The goal is to position it as a direct competitor to Google’s AI services and to the upcoming generative AI enhancements Apple is preparing for Siri.
At this stage, however, none of the anticipated AI features appear to be active in Beta 5. This suggests that the update may be laying the groundwork at the system level, preparing the software infrastructure for server-side activation or for a broader feature rollout in the final stable build.
Based on Android 16 QPR2
One UI 8.5 is built on Android 16 QPR2, signaling that Samsung is continuing to align closely with Google’s quarterly platform updates while layering its own ecosystem enhancements on top.
Given the proximity to Samsung’s next major hardware event—where the Galaxy S26 series is expected to be unveiled—it is highly plausible that Beta 5 represents the final testing phase. The stable version of One UI 8.5 could debut either during the official presentation or alongside the commercial availability of the new devices, likely a couple of weeks later.
With only incremental refinements included in this build and the product launch window approaching, all signs point to a near-final software state. If no major bugs emerge from this beta phase, One UI 8.5 should be ready for its public release—bringing with it what could be Samsung’s most ambitious evolution of Bixby to date.
