Ford says it’s ready to rewrite history. On August 11, 2025, the company will unveil a new EV platform designed to democratize electric mobility. An ambitious project that CEO Jim Farley boldly described as “our new Ford Model T moment.”
Ford: a new platform for a new generation of EVs
During a recent investor call, Farley teased the launch of an all-new electric platform, engineered and built in the United States (thankfully), aimed at creating a family of EVs “for the masses.” The focus will be on efficiency, technology, space, and most importantly, affordability.
“August 11 will be a historic date for Ford. We will share our plans to build an innovative platform and electric vehicle. It’s a moment comparable to the Model T for our company,” Farley stated.
The new EV platform is the result of a secret internal project dubbed “skunkworks,” created with the sole purpose of developing a low-cost electric car capable of competing in an increasingly crowded—and still expensive—market. Rumors suggest the flexible platform could support compact SUVs, light pickup trucks, and electric commercial vehicles.
One of the key components will be the use of LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries, known to be cheaper than the more common NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) batteries while maintaining good longevity. These battery cells will be produced directly in the U.S. at the BlueOval Battery Park in Michigan, which is set to begin operations in 2026.
What to Expect on August 11?
Farley invoked the legacy of the Model T to raise expectations. Launched in 1908, the Model T revolutionized the automotive industry by making cars accessible to the average citizen through mass production. Today, Ford aims to replicate that success with a new generation of EVs designed to be affordable, versatile, and mass-produced.
According to rumors and official hints, we might see the prototype of a low-cost compact crossover—and possibly a small electric pickup.
