Denza, the premium brand under BYD, has revealed its first electric supercar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The new model is called Z, and it arrives in four distinct variants: Coupé, Spider, Racing, and a Special Edition that will attempt a Nürburgring record run this coming autumn.
Orders for the first three versions open during the summer, with deliveries expected before the end of the year. Denza has not yet announced pricing.
A three motor powertrain with over 1,600 horsepower
At the core of the Denza Z sits the brand’s own e3 Sports Car Platform, built around a three motor layout with one unit at the front and two at the rear, one per wheel. The setup delivers all wheel drive and a combined output of 1,180 kW, equivalent to 1,604 horsepower, along with 1,240 Nm of torque.
The numbers are dramatic. The Coupé sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.25 seconds, reaches 200 km/h in 6.36 seconds, and tops out at 300 km/h. The Racing variant goes even further, fitted with optional semi slick tires that trim those figures down to 1.96 seconds and 6 seconds respectively, with a top speed of 350 km/h.
Underpinning all this performance is a chassis built with double wishbone front suspension and a five link rear multilink setup, enhanced by sophisticated DiSus M magnetorheological dampers. Braking comes from a carbon ceramic system with six piston front calipers and four piston rear calipers, while the Vehicle Motion Control system coordinates braking, suspension, and steering in real time.
Full charge in under 10 minutes
Power comes from a 76 kWh Blade 2.0 battery, integrated directly into the body structure through the Cell to Body 2.0 architecture. WLTP range figures stand at 410 km for the Coupé, 400 km for the Spider, and 380 km for the Racing.
Like the Denza Z9GT before it, the Z supports Flash Charging technology, capable of delivering up to 1,500 kW. That allows the battery to go from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes, even in temperatures as low as minus 30°C.
Sculpted, aerodynamic design
The Denza Z was designed by Wolfgang Egger, who has led design at BYD since 2016 and describes the car as a dynamic sculpture of speed. The Coupé measures 4,780 mm in length, 1,975 mm in width, and 1,330 mm in height, with the Spider standing slightly taller at 1,350 mm. Wheelbase comes in at 2,780 mm.
The bodywork features pronounced fender flares, and the front end integrates a central air intake that manages cooling and airflow. The Racing variant stretches 90 mm longer and 15 mm wider, and adds a carbon fiber front splitter along with a rear wing that adjusts across three positions.
A spacious, luxurious cabin for four
Unusually for a car in this category, the Denza Z offers seating for four. The rear seatbacks fold down to expand cargo capacity, growing from 250 to 550 liters in the Coupé and from 131 to 176 liters in the Spider.
Inside, the cabin blends premium materials with sporty details, including velvet effect fabrics, aluminum trim, and carbon fiber accents. An 8.9 inch digital instrument cluster sits alongside a 12.8 inch infotainment display, running on Google’s software ecosystem and paired with a Devialet audio system featuring Dolby Atmos. The steering wheel includes dedicated buttons for Track and Boost modes, the latter increasing available torque by 20% and power by 30%.
