At the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, Volkswagen unveiled the first three vehicles derived from the ID. Code concept car presented in 2024 in Beijing: the Volkswagen ID. Aura, ID. Era, and ID. Evo, all designed specifically for the Chinese market.
These three models are being developed through Volkswagen’s joint ventures in China: FAW-Volkswagen, SAIC Volkswagen, and Volkswagen Anhui, respectively. They include a compact sedan, a crossover, and a seven-seater SUV, and are part of Volkswagen’s plan to launch over 30 models in China by the end of 2027 — more than 20 of which will be NEVs (New Energy Vehicles), including electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and range extenders.
All three concept vehicles feature highly automated driving systems based on artificial intelligence, expected to reach Level 2++ autonomy by 2026. This means that, under driver supervision, the cars will be able to perform maneuvers such as overtaking, turning, and merging into traffic independently.
Volkswagen ID. Aura – The smallest of the three
Developed with FAW-Volkswagen, the ID. Aura is the first model built on the new Compact Main Platform (CMP), a platform specifically designed for the Chinese market.

Its notchback design and compact dimensions make it ideal for city use, while still offering advanced technology. The integrated AI system enables natural and intelligent driving behavior, and the user interface — inspired by smartphones — simplifies access to the vehicle’s functions.

The real star is the humanoid digital assistant, which allows for smooth control of functions and infotainment.
ID. Era – the 7-Seater SUV
Born from the collaboration with SAIC Volkswagen, the ID. Era is a full-size SUV with three rows of seats. It introduces range extender technology into the Volkswagen world, and it’s likely this tech will make its way to future models in Europe.

A fuel-powered generator recharges the battery while driving, offering an additional range of over 700 km.
Combined with its 300 km of all-electric range, the vehicle can cover over 1,000 km in total — providing a real solution for long-distance travel without range anxiety.
ID. Evo – youthful and ultra-fast charging
Developed by Volkswagen Anhui, the ID. EVO targets a younger, style-conscious audience.

It’s the first full-size, fully electric SUV in the ID. Unyx family, built on an 800-volt platform.

The zonal electronic architecture enables frequent OTA (over-the-air) updates and advanced digital services, taking the customer experience to the next level.
