BMW M has chosen the 24 Hours of Le Mans as the stage for the world premiere of the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse, a vehicle that previews the new design language for high-performance BMW M automobiles and signals the brand’s commitment to an all-electric future.
The concept bridges the company’s motorsport heritage with the next generation of M products, remaining faithful to the long-standing principle of technologies and aesthetics born on the racetrack and developed for the road.
Exterior design defined by aerodynamic function
The proportions are immediately recognisable as belonging to a high-performance automobile. Powerful lines, a muscular shoulder section and wide wheel arches establish the visual identity, while a series of M-specific aerodynamic measures shape every surface with purpose.
At the front, a forward-facing shark nose is paired with a light signature featuring a depth effect, with headlights and kidney grille unified into a single visual element. The new M Yellow Lights, designed to become a signature feature of future BMW M models, reference both GT racing cars and the BMW M Hybrid V8. A V-shaped bonnet air outlet supports cooling of the electric drivetrain, while the front apron adopts a trimaran-style bumper inspired by high-speed sailing boats, providing structural support for the front splitter.
Three-dimensional Track Lights appear in the outer sections of both the front and rear aprons, framing the trimaran element above a floating diffuser at the rear. A ducktail spoiler increases downforce at the rear axle while maintaining the clean surface design of the tail.
Natural fibre materials appear throughout the exterior, used in the front splitter, the bonnet air outlet and the diffuser. For the first time, natural fibre is presented not only in its raw form but also with a refined finish carrying M branding in the roof graphic. A newly developed Monza Red metallic paint finish and red-and-blue coded centre-lock wheels reinforce the visual connection to BMW M’s motorsport roots.
A cockpit built around the driver
The interior reduces everything to what serves the driving experience. Four newly developed bucket seats integrate structural elements made from natural fibre materials and are upholstered in Bathurst Blue and Berry Red two-tone Merino leather, picking up the BMW M colour palette. Red five-point belts reinforce the sporting character.
Making its debut in a BMW M vehicle, high-quality black nubuck leather covers the steering wheel, door panels and roll bar. The floating dashboard is finished in black knit material with M-specific hexagonal backlighting. Red accents on the gear selector, shift paddles and digital displays keep performance at the centre of the cockpit experience.
Four electric motors and a new performance concept
The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse introduces the BMW M eDrive drivetrain concept, built on the Neue Klasse Gen6 platform and developed specifically for all-electric M automobiles. Four electric motors are managed by the central control software BMW M Dynamic Performance Control, running within the high-performance computer called Heart of Joy. Wheel-specific control of both the drivetrain and braking systems opens new potential for driving dynamics and active safety, enabling high recuperation performance and direct throttle response up to the vehicle’s limits.
The system operates on 800-volt architecture, supported by a high-voltage battery with an energy content of more than 100 kWh. A BMW M-optimised version of sixth-generation cylindrical cells delivers high output both when powering the motors and during charging. The battery housing is structurally integrated with the front and rear axle, contributing directly to the vehicle’s dynamic behaviour.
With the Concept Neue Klasse, BMW M presents a coherent argument that the transition to electric power does not require a compromise on the defining characteristics of the M experience, carrying both technological innovation and design references from motorsport directly into the next generation of series production vehicles.
