Chinese car maker Chery used the Paris Motor Show to present its plan for Europe, and it is an ambitious one. By the end of 2026, the brand will be present in 20 EU markets with 687 sales and service points. In 2027, that will rise to 27 markets and 1,143 points, meaning Chery will cover every country in the European Union just two years after it entered the EU market in 2025.

The plan was presented by Aaron Zheng, Executive Deputy General Manager of the Chery brand, together with a new European slogan, “For EU. For Family”. Chery also gave the French public its first look at the brand’s first electric model for Europe, the Chery Q.

Three powertrains, one family focus

Chery is already present in several EU countries, including Greece, Romania, Hungary and Poland. The next step is to strengthen local research and development, production and service, and to offer a range built on three technologies: plug-in hybrid, full hybrid and fully electric. The idea is to cover short urban trips on electricity and longer journeys in hybrid mode, adapting the line-up to each market.

The “For Family” philosophy rests on three pillars: space, safety and technology. Chery expects the number of customer families in Europe to rise from around 100,000 in 2026 to around 300,000 in 2027.

Chery Q: the first electric Chery for Europe

The Chery Q is a compact electric SUV, aimed both at younger buyers looking for their first car and at families who need a second car for daily trips, weekend shopping and the school run. It is due to arrive in European markets during 2027.

European specifications have not yet been announced. In South Africa, where the Q is already on sale, it uses a rear-mounted 90 kW electric motor and a 42.7 kWh LFP battery, with a claimed range of up to 400 km on the older NEDC cycle. Real-world and WLTP figures are likely to be lower.

Alongside the Q, the stand shows the Tiggo 4, as well as the Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid SUVs (not for Nordics).

A battery tested in the Black Sea

The Tiggo 9 on display has an unusual story. In September, it took part in the Chery Black Sea Safety Challenge in Constanța, Romania, in front of European journalists and engineers from German engineering company FEV. After 24 hours submerged in salt water, its high-voltage battery still met the requirements for sealing and insulation. In an underbody impact test against a rigid obstacle, the battery casing showed no structural damage and no electrolyte leaks.

What it means for the Nordic region

Covering all 27 EU member states means Chery’s own brand is set to reach Denmark, Sweden and Finland by 2027. The plan as presented covers the EU only, so markets such as Norway and Iceland are not mentioned. Nordic buyers already know Chery’s group through its other brands, Omoda and Jaecoo, which are already on sale in several Nordic countries, including Denmark, with iCaur coming in early 2027.
