Renault has unveiled an updated version of their Renault Austral SUV, which was first introduced in 2022. The facelift brings a completely new front inspired by the larger Espace, along with a refreshed rear end.
Renault Austral gets an early update with a sharper look
The Renault Austral shares its platform with the Nissan Qashqai and has been a popular SUV in Europe. While competition in the segment has somewhat decreased—once being one of the most competitive SUV categories—Renault continues to strengthen its position with an updated Austral. The front of the refreshed Austral has been given a sharper appearance with a new grille and redesigned headlights, now featuring a more angular shape. These updates are inspired by Renault’s latest design language, which is also seen on models like the Espace.

Inside, new materials have been introduced to enhance the overall quality, and the OpenR infotainment system has been upgraded with Google integration. This system combines a 12.3″ digital instrument cluster with a 12″ infotainment screen.
Possible Plug-in Hybrid version could boost Renault Austral’s power to 296 hp
Under the hood, the Austral continues with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine combined with an electric motor, delivering a total output of up to 197 hp. There are also speculations that a plug-in hybrid version with up to 296 hp could be introduced, increasing the model’s appeal in the competitive SUV segment. However, the small 1.2-liter engine is far from sluggish, with a 0-100 km/h time of just 8.4 seconds.

Although there are no drastic changes, Renault has improved sound insulation under the hood and optimized the door seals to reduce noise and vibrations inside the cabin. Additionally, the suspension has been upgraded to provide a more stable and controlled driving experience in corners. We hope to learn more about the new Renault Austral as the year progresses.
