The first users are starting to see a redesigned MobilePay this week, as the payment app rolls out a new, simpler look. The update is being introduced gradually, in small waves, with users invited to share feedback along the way before it reaches everyone.

A cleaner home screen and a bigger role for Wallet

The idea behind the redesign is straightforward: more clarity, and a better overview of what actually matters. The biggest change lands on the home screen, which now splits into several distinct sections, including one specifically for pending requests and other things needing attention, making them noticeably easier to find at a glance.

Payment cards also move into the Wallet section, joining loyalty cards in the same place, with more features expected to be added there over time.

MobilePay rollout Nordic users: just 1 percent to start

Rather than pushing the redesign out all at once, MobilePay is rolling it out considerably slower than usual. To begin with, just 1 percent of users across the Nordics are getting the new version of MobilePay or its sister app Vipps, roughly 130,000 users in total across the region.

That first group gets the chance to weigh in on the new design directly, feedback MobilePay can use to fine tune things before rolling the update out to the next wave of users. Selection is random, with no particular criteria determining who gets early access. In Denmark specifically, around 47,000 users will receive the update this week.

Jeanette Hertzum, country manager for MobilePay in Denmark, noted that the app’s last design overhaul dates back to 2024, when the same look was rolled out across the entire Nordic region. Since then, the team has been focused on shipping new features rather than revisiting the design itself, and she framed this update as the right moment for a simpler look that the company hopes users will respond well to.

MobilePay Wallet feature builds on a year of contactless growth

One of the biggest changes to MobilePay over the past year has been contactless payment in physical stores, where users can now set MobilePay as their default payment method instead of Apple Pay or Google Pay. More banks and card types continue to be added on an ongoing basis, alongside new features aimed at making it easier to pay and split bills or shared expenses between users.

That functionality is made more visible in the new design, which also leaves room for further additions still to be announced. The update becomes available whenever users update to the latest version of MobilePay through the App Store or Google Play.
