Kia prices its factory built wheelchair accessible PV5 WAV at 389,999 kroner in Denmark

Kia has confirmed Danish pricing for its new PV5 WAV Side Entry (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle), setting the vehicle at 389,999 kr. The model joins Kia’s growing PBV lineup and was built from the ground up with a specific goal: making electric mobility genuinely more accessible for wheelchair users.

Built as a wheelchair accessible vehicle from day one, not converted afterward

Unlike the more common approach, where a standard car is later sent through an extensive aftermarket conversion, the PV5 WAV Side Entry arrives as a complete, factory integrated wheelchair accessible vehicle. The side mounted ramp, the specific floor construction, and the system for securing a wheelchair safely are all built directly into the car from the start, rather than bolted on later.

The PV5 WAV Side Entry can be ordered through Danish Kia dealers starting 25 August 2026, with the first Danish deliveries expected in the first quarter of 2027.

Kia PV5 WAV Side Entry specs: access straight from the pavement

One of the model’s defining features is side access, letting a wheelchair user get in and out directly from the pavement rather than needing space behind the vehicle. That makes it particularly practical for everyday use and city driving, where space behind a parked car can often be limited.

The two piece manual ramp was designed to handle varying road and pavement conditions, with a maximum incline of 13.1 degrees, dropping to 11 degrees from a 150mm high kerb. Integrated floor lighting adds visibility during boarding and exit.

The wheelchair space sits centrally within the cabin, keeping the wheelchair user as a natural part of the shared cabin environment. The car can run in a 2-0-3 configuration for standard passenger transport, or a 2-(1)-1 configuration that positions the wheelchair user centrally within the car. A 60:40 split, foldable rear seat also allows a companion to sit directly alongside the wheelchair user. The floor structure itself is reinforced, with an integrated restraint system keeping the wheelchair securely in place while driving.

A complete starting point, with room for individual adaptation

Needs for a wheelchair accessible vehicle can vary considerably from person to person. Kia has designed the PV5 WAV Side Entry as a complete, ready to use starting point, while still leaving room for further individual adaptation where needed.

Kia dealers act as the customer’s entry point into that process, working directly with buyers to identify their specific needs. Where further advice or specialised adaptations are required, dealers can bring in relevant specialist expertise to help. Any individual adaptations beyond the car’s standard build aren’t included in the listed price.

Up to 391 km of electric range

The PV5 WAV Side Entry runs a 71.2 kWh battery paired with a 163 hp electric motor, rated for up to 391 km of WLTP range with claimed energy consumption of 20.4 kWh per 100 km.

The car supports AC charging up to 11 kW and DC fast charging up to 150 kW, with a 10 to 80 percent fast charge taking around 30 minutes. Towing capacity is rated at 750 kg.

A single, well equipped Upgrade trim

In Denmark, the PV5 WAV Side Entry launches exclusively in the well equipped Upgrade trim, a deliberate choice ensuring the dedicated WAV solution doesn’t come at the expense of the comfort, safety and technology expected from a modern passenger car.

Standard equipment includes electric sliding doors and an electric tailgate, electrically adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel and front seats, a heat pump, and automatic climate control with rear passenger air vents. The digital cockpit includes a 12.9 inch touchscreen with navigation and Kia Connect, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, Digital Key, and support for over the air software updates.

On the safety and assistance side, standard equipment covers adaptive cruise control with Emergency Stop, Highway Driving Assist (HDA 1), extended Lane Following Assist (LFA 2), active blind spot assist with a blind spot camera, a 360 degree camera, active parking collision assist, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection.

The PV5 WAV Side Entry also includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), letting the car’s high voltage battery power external electrical equipment, and comes prepared for future V2X functionality.

Part of Kia’s wider PBV strategy

The PV5 WAV Side Entry is developed as part of Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle strategy, built on the dedicated E-GMP.S platform (Electric-Global Modular Platform for Service).

The PV5 platform’s flat floor and flexible architecture were designed from the outset to support a range of different uses and body types, from passenger and cargo transport to more specialised mobility solutions. The PV5 lineup accordingly spans Passenger, Cargo, Chassis Cab and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle variants. With the WAV Side Entry, Kia puts that same flexibility to work by treating wheelchair access and transport as something engineered directly into the car itself, rather than added on afterward as a standard aftermarket conversion.
