Mattel and Milestone have revealed that Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is moving up its launch window, with a new trailer confirming the open world racer will now hit Switch 2 and other platforms on 10th September 2026. This is a shift forward from the previously announced date of 24th September 2026.
The game was first revealed at Summer Games Fest earlier this year, marking Mattel and Milestone’s follow up to Hot Wheels Unleashed 2, which launched back in 2023. Unlike its predecessors, Infinite Rush takes the franchise in a fresh direction by embracing a full open world structure rather than the toy track based format fans are used to.
What to expect from the open world
Players will get to explore four distinct islands, each offering a mix of classic races, free roam exploration, and a variety of side modes and activities to keep things fresh. Mattel and Milestone are promising a huge amount of content for collectors and racing fans alike, with more than 150 vehicles available across four different vehicle classes. Each car comes packed with its own unique special ability, adding a layer of strategy to how players approach races and challenges.
In a notable first for the franchise, Ferrari vehicles will be joining the roster, a big deal for fans of the iconic Italian marque who want to see their favourite supercars reimagined in miniature Hot Wheels form.
Multiplayer and customisation options
Infinite Rush is also putting a strong emphasis on social and competitive play. The game will support full cross play, meaning players on different platforms can race against each other regardless of hardware. There’s also split screen multiplayer for up to four players, ideal for local couch racing sessions.
For creative players, the game includes a sticker editor and livery editor, allowing for deep visual customisation of vehicles. There’s also new wheel customisation options to further personalise your ride. On top of that, the returning track builder has been enhanced, giving players more tools than ever to design their own courses. Builders can even populate their custom tracks with virtual opponents, making solo practice or showcasing creations far more dynamic.

With its shift to an open world format, Hot Wheels Infinite Rush looks set to offer a significantly different experience compared to earlier entries in the series.
