Starting this summer, tourists visiting Copenhagen in an electric car will be rewarded for their eco-friendly choice. As part of the city’s expanding sustainability initiative CopenPay 2025, visitors arriving in EVs can enjoy significant discounts on both parking and charging, underscoring the Danish capital’s commitment to greener tourism.
The CopenPay program, which originally launched as a pilot in 2024, was designed to encourage sustainable behavior among tourists. With the 2025 update, the project now includes substantial incentives for electric car users, marking a major step forward in the city’s ambition to reduce tourism-related emissions.
According to Søren Tegen Pedersen, CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen, the goal is to redefine the role of tourism in the climate conversation:
“Tourism needs to shift from being a burden on the environment to becoming a positive driver of change. Fortunately, many travelers want to make a difference where they go,” he explains.
What’s New in CopenPay 2025?
From June 17 to August 17, EV-driving tourists will benefit from:
- Up to 75% off parking at Q-Park facilities near Nørreport and Vesterport stations.
- 35% off charging costs for their vehicles.
- Discounts on Donkey Republic’s city bikes when pre-booking parking — making it even easier to combine electric driving with zero-emission cycling.
With more than 100 attractions participating, including The National Museum of Denmark, Kronborg Castle, Statens Museum for Kunst SM, Copenhill, The Urban Garden, GoBoat, and bike rentals, CopenPay aims to offer a full spectrum of green experiences. Originally focused on rewarding train and bicycle travelers, the project’s 2025 expansion to include EVs reflects a broader commitment to supporting all forms of sustainable mobility.
The success of last year’s pilot has already drawn attention internationally and contributed to CopenPay becoming part of the EU’s Transition Pathway for Tourism — a sign that Copenhagen’s approach could inspire similar initiatives across Europe.
