After winning over millions of fans with titles like Drift Racing, Highway Racing, and Rally, the team at CarX Technologies decided to raise the stakes. In 2022, they announced CarX Street, an open-world racing game that marked a turning point for the Russian studio, offering a level of freedom they had never explored before.

After its PC debut via Steam at the end of 2024 — and a strong launch with over 600,000 downloads — 2025 is the year of consoles: it’s available on Xbox Series X/S since June 18, and on PlayStation 5 starting July 25.

CarX Street: Sunset City is your new automotive playground

The heart of CarX Street is Sunset City, a vast and diverse virtual metropolis, with central districts, suburbs, open highways, and twisty mountain roads. The goal here is simple: become the best racer in the city.

To do that, you’ll have to take on various racing clubs scattered throughout the map, each with its own identity and driving philosophy. For example, Union Underground is made up of engineers focused entirely on performance, while Kanjo Spirit caters to hatchback lovers who embrace an aggressive, high-risk driving style.

The gameplay offers a wide range of modes: sprint races, circuits, and drifting competitions — all built around CarX Technologies’ in-house physics engine, praised for its realism. This focus on simulation has a tangible impact: the cheaper cars you can afford early in the game won’t be powerful or nimble enough to take on tougher races. That means you’ll need to upgrade your vehicle often to stay competitive.

92 cars and endless customization

Thankfully, the game features a nearly limitless customization system reminiscent of Need for Speed — especially the early 2000s titles, but also more recent entries that have returned to that style.

At launch, there are 92 cars available, with more on the way through future updates. The tuning system allows you to modify everything from the engine, drivetrain, suspension, bodywork, to the wheels, letting you tailor your ride to your exact driving preferences.

CarX Street isn’t only about racing. Sunset City is packed with opportunities: you can accept side missions like delivering vehicles or car parts, earning valuable resources to upgrade your ride.

Or you can simply explore the open world, from high-speed highways to narrow, technical mountain passes. You can also purchase properties across the city — each with a garage where you can proudly showcase your customized vehicles. All of this unfolds in a dynamic day-night cycle that changes the atmosphere and conditions of your races.

Multiplayer modes with crossplay

If you’re into online competition, the game offers several multiplayer modes, all with full crossplay support between PC and consoles:

  • Battle Mode: 1v1 duels in circle or sprint races.
  • Chase Mode: a high-stakes pursuit where one player escapes and the other gives chase.
  • Speed League: 1v5 races on circuits or sprint routes.
  • Time Attack: beat the clock, climb the leaderboard, and earn rewards.
