Long anticipated, the European version of the Seagull will debut as BYD Dolphin Surf, first arriving in Denmark and other Nordic countries. The vehicle was recently crowned World Urban Car 2025 at the New York Auto Show, thanks to its compact size, high-quality build, and advanced technology.
It’s one of BYD’s best-selling models globally and the first Chinese car ever to win a title at the World Car Awards.
From Seagull to BYD Dolphin Surf
Previously known internationally as the Seagull or Dolphin Mini, the car will be officially introduced in Europe under the name Dolphin Surf.

With dimensions tailored for city driving—3.9 meters in length, 1.7 meters in width, and 1.5 meters in height—the Dolphin Surf will compete directly with models like the Hyundai Inster, Fiat 500e, and Renault 5.

Despite its compact footprint, the Dolphin Surf offers impressive interior space, featuring a 316-liter trunk suitable for daily errands or short weekend getaways. A 2,500 mm wheelbase and a tight turning radius of 4.95 meters make it especially nimble for navigating tight urban streets and parking spots.

All versions of the Dolphin Surf can charge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes via fast charging, making it a practical and versatile choice for commuters, first-time drivers, or as a compact family vehicle.
3 trims and 2 battery options
The Dolphin Surf will be available in three trims—Active, Boost, and Comfort—and two battery sizes to suit various needs:
Active:
- 30 kWh battery;
- Up to 220 km range;
- 88 hp motor;
- 0–100 km/h in 11.1 seconds
Boost:
- 43.2 kWh battery;
- Up to 322 km range;
- 88 hp motor;
- 0–100 km/h in 11.1 seconds
Comfort:
- 43.2 kWh battery;
- Up to 310 km range;
- 156 hp motor for added performance

All versions boast a top speed of 150 km/h, ensuring they’re just as capable on the highway as they are in the city.
Danish Debut on May 24–25
