From May 27, the French performance marque Alpine is officially available in Denmark through four authorized Renault dealers. The brand opens its showroom doors to customers this weekend for test drives of its two all-electric models, the A290 (review here) and A390.

Alpine, known for its motorsports heritage spanning from the 1950s to Formula 1, has spent the past seven years developing a street car lineup centered on dynamic driving rather than mainstream appeal. Both new models combine French engineering with performance-focused chassis tuning designed to engage drivers.

The A290 brings back the Renault 5 Turbo

The Alpine A290 shares its platform with the Renault 5 but undergoes a more rigorous technical approach. Built on Renault Group’s AmpR Small platform with a 52 kWh battery, the A290 differs in its suspension setup, software calibration, and overall driving character. Alpine has implemented torque vectoring via software, a multi-link rear suspension, four-channel Brembo brakes, and a stiffer chassis to prioritize precision steering and reduced understeer.

Three versions arrive in Denmark. The GT model produces 180 horsepower, reaching 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds with a top speed of 160 km/h. The GT Performance and GTS models both develop 220 horsepower, hitting 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds and reaching 170 km/h. The GTS adds leather seats, a nine-speaker Devialet audio system, and exclusive design details. Range stands at 380 km for the 180 hp variant and 360 km for the 220 hp versions, with 11 kW AC and 100 kW DC charging capability across the range.

Pricing in Denmark begins at 264,990 kroner for the GT. The GT Performance costs 279,990 kroner, while the fully equipped GTS reaches 294,990 kroner.

A390, the fastback

The A390 represents a separate design philosophy—a five-door fastback combining practical family transport with electric sports car performance. Wider and longer than the A290, it seats five passengers and offers 537 liters of cargo space. The model draws on Alpine’s design language while introducing aerodynamic proportions suited to its segment.

Alpine equips the A390 with either 400 or 470 horsepower, both versions featuring all-wheel drive and three individual electric motors paired with active torque vectoring. The A390 carries an 89 kWh battery. The base GT model produces 400 hp, accelerating to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds with a 200 km/h top speed and 551 km WLTP range. The GTS variant develops 470 hp, completing 0–100 km/h in 3.9 seconds with 497 km range.

Alpine launches the GT version in Denmark immediately, with the GTS arriving later in the year. The GT starts at 509,990 kroner, while the GTS will cost 599,990 kroner.
