In 1886, Karl Benz built what is widely regarded as the world’s first automobile, the Benz Patent Motorwagen. Now, 140 years later, Mercedes-Benz marks this historic milestone by unveiling one of its most important models: the new 2026 Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Blending heritage with cutting-edge innovation, the latest C-Class represents a bold step forward—both in design and technology.

A Return to Iconic Design

Following the lead of its SUV sibling, the Mercedes-Benz GLC, the new C-Class reinterprets a signature feature from the brand’s past: the prominent front grille. Inspired by the classic radiators of early Mercedes vehicles, the grille combines layered metallic materials with modern polymers, creating a surface that feels cool to the touch—even when fully illuminated by integrated LED lighting.

This striking grille defines the car’s front-end identity, with sharp lines that gradually soften toward the rear. Designers have emphasized elegance and aerodynamics, giving the sedan a coupe-like silhouette with a sloping rear window, short overhangs, and a long 2.96-meter wheelbase.

Features such as flush door handles and frameless windows contribute to an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.22.

A Futuristic Interior Experience

Inside, the 2026 C-Class showcases a radical approach to digital integration. The optional MBUX Hyperscreen stretches nearly one meter across the dashboard (39.1 inches), seamlessly combining the instrument cluster, central infotainment, and passenger display into a single continuous glass surface.

The cabin also features a panoramic glass roof with electrochromic technology, allowing occupants to adjust transparency—even in separate sections—at the touch of a button. Subtle illuminated three-pointed stars embedded in the glass add a signature luxury touch.

Powered by the new MB.OS operating system, the infotainment system integrates advanced AI capabilities, including support for next-generation virtual assistants inspired by modern artificial intelligence technologies.

Electric Performance and Advanced Engineering

The new C-Class debuts on a fully electric platform featuring an 800-volt architecture, designed to improve charging speed and efficiency. Its 94.5 kWh battery (100 kWh gross) offers up to 760 km of range under the WLTP cycle.

At launch, the model comes equipped with dual permanent magnet synchronous motors, delivering all-wheel drive via the 4Matic system. Total output reaches 490 horsepower (360 kW) and 800 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 4.1 seconds.

A two-speed transmission on the rear axle enhances both acceleration and highway efficiency, while standard Airmatic air suspension adapts in real time using mapping data and vehicle sensors. Rear-wheel steering (up to 4.5°) improves agility, reducing the turning circle to just 11.2 meters.

Toward Autonomous Driving

The 2026 C-Class is also prepared for Level 3 autonomous driving systems, meaning that—where regulations allow—the vehicle can take over driving tasks under certain conditions.

The driver can temporarily disengage, stepping back in only when prompted by the system.

Practicality Meets Innovation

Despite its sleek profile, the new C-Class remains practical. It offers a 470-liter rear trunk and an additional 101-liter front compartment.

Rear passenger space benefits from the long wheelbase, although the sloping roofline may slightly impact headroom and rear visibility.
