Volvo Cars is rolling out Apple Music to more than two million of its models through a wireless software update. At the same time, the service will become a fully integrated part of the infotainment system in the new Volvo EX60, once the first customers start receiving their cars later this year.

Spatial Audio for the newest models

Drivers of the Volvo EX60, EX90 and ES90 will also be able to enjoy Apple Music Spatial Audio, based on Dolby Atmos technology and made possible through the optional Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system. Together, they create an immersive 3D listening experience on the move.

Alwin Bakkenes, head of global software engineering at Volvo Cars, said many customers already use Apple Music on their phones or at home, and that bringing the service directly into Volvo’s cars turns the vehicle into an exceptional place to experience music. He added that the goal is to make drivers feel as though they are inside a concert hall or arena during their favourite live performance, or surrounded by the newest music in Spatial Audio exactly as the artist intended, describing it as a truly emotional listening experience.

Instant access to more than 100 million songs

Apple Music is one of the world’s largest music streaming services, offering instant, ad free access to more than 100 million songs. Customers simply log in with their Apple account to enjoy songs, playlists and live radio.

Sound quality reaches new heights in EX60, EX90 and ES90

The Volvo EX60, EX90 and ES90 are quieter than any previous Volvo model, thanks to advanced sound insulation. Building on its tradition of premium audio experiences, Volvo Cars has taken sound quality in these models to a new level, offering one of the most advanced sound systems available, carefully calibrated to the car’s interior acoustics.

With Apple Music Spatial Audio, based on Dolby Atmos technology, drivers can experience immersive sound that transforms the car into a premium listening environment. Dolby Atmos delivers a more natural, multidimensional sound experience that surrounds the listener with music and vocals featuring greater clarity and depth.

Three months of Apple Music free for eligible customers

To help new listeners get started, Volvo Cars is offering eligible customers up to three months of Apple Music for free, giving them time to discover new artists and find the soundtrack for their next journey.

The fine print

The software update will reach the Volvo EX90, ES90, XC90, S90, V90, XC60, S60, V60, XC40, EX40 and EC40 from model year 2020 onward. Availability timing may vary depending on the car model.
