Apple has unveiled the MacBook Neo, a new 13-inch laptop designed to be the entry-level of the brand’s laptop lineup.
While it comes with budget pricing, there are some important specifications to keep in mind.
Pricing and availability
The MacBook Neo carries a suggested retail price of approximately $550 USD / €520 EUR (DKK 5,500 in Denmark). For students and educational institutions, the price drops to around $450 USD / €425 EUR (DKK 4,500). With this pricing, the MacBook Neo becomes Apple’s most affordable laptop ever made.

Pre-orders began on March 4, with availability in retailers starting Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Design
Despite its budget-friendly price, the MacBook Neo maintains Apple’s commitment to premium materials with an aluminum chassis. The device is available in four colors:
- Blush (light pink)
- Indigo (dark blue)
- Silver
- Citrus (a fresh yellow-green hue)
It weighs just 1.22 kg (2.7 lbs), making it highly portable for students and everyday users.

The 13-inch Liquid Retina display offers a resolution of 2408 × 1506 pixels with 500 nits of brightness and support for 1 billion colors. The anti-reflective coating is particularly impressive for a machine in this price category, helping reduce glare and improve visibility in various lighting conditions.
The A18 Pro Chip, directly from iPhone
The MacBook Neo is powered by Apple’s A18 Pro chip, the same processor typically found in iPhones and entry-level iPads. According to Apple, this chip delivers sufficient performance for everyday tasks including:
- Web browsing and streaming
- Document editing
- Light photo and video editing
- AI functions

Apple claims the A18 Pro is up to 50% faster than the best-selling PC with Intel’s latest Core Ultra 5 processor for general tasks, and up to 3 times faster for on-device AI workloads. The chip features a 5-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine.
Silent Operation: Notably, the MacBook Neo operates completely silently—there’s no cooling fan. Battery life is rated at up to 16 hours on a single charge, though this is somewhat lower than the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro despite the slower processor.

The laptop includes a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, two directional microphones with beamforming, and stereo speakers with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos support—impressive audio-visual capabilities for the price point.
The familiar Apple Magic Keyboard comes in color-matched finishes, while the trackpad is a large Multi-Touch area with Touch ID integration on certain configurations.
Connectivity options include:
- Two USB-C ports (one USB 3 and one USB 2)
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- Wi-Fi 6E
- Bluetooth 6
Software and Integration
The MacBook Neo ships with macOS Tahoe and includes Apple’s Continuity features such as:
- Handoff – seamlessly switch between devices
- Universal Clipboard – copy and paste across devices
- iPhone Mirroring – view and control your iPhone on your Mac
Apple Intelligence features are also integrated into the device, giving users access to on-device AI capabilities.
