Drivers using the Sønderjyske Motorvej in southern Jutland should expect slower nighttime journeys starting Tuesday 11 August, when the Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) begins replacing worn asphalt on the southbound carriageway near Christiansfeld. The work is expected to take around two weeks.
Christiansfeld roadworks: what’s actually happening
The resurfacing covers the southbound stretch between ramp 65b at Vonsild and ramp 66 at Christiansfeld. Crews will first remove the existing worn asphalt so the underlying road surface can be repaired, before laying new asphalt and repainting the lane markings. Once finished, drivers can expect a noticeably smoother carriageway and a better overall driving experience through the area.
Night closures Vonsild to Christiansfeld: what drivers need to know
To keep disruption to a minimum, the work will be carried out as evening and night shifts, primarily between 6pm and 6am. During those hours, southbound traffic will be diverted onto the northbound carriageway, leaving just one open lane in each direction. The southbound exit ramp at ramp 66 Christiansfeld will be closed for the duration of each work period, with a signposted detour in place whenever the ramp is shut.
Drivers should expect a real risk of queues during the evening and night closures, along with longer journey times because of the detour. Outside those hours, between 6am and 6pm, the motorway and all ramps in the area will remain fully open to normal traffic.
