For years, København Syd has carried a reputation as one of Copenhagen’s most confusing and chaotic stations. Passengers often found themselves zigzagging through temporary pathways, navigating level changes, and relying on unclear signage that left even locals unsure of where to go.

All of that is about to change. With the opening of two new Øresund platforms, the station is set to transform into a streamlined and accessible transport hub on the edge of Sydhavnen.

The upgrades will allow for the first-ever direct journey between Copenhagen Airport and Odense without passing through Copenhagen Central Station, cutting travel time to the airport by almost half. Commuters will also enjoy a wider range of travel options across the capital, making daily journeys faster and simpler.

Faster Travel and Expanded Connections

Already served by the Metro, three S-train lines, as well as regional and national trains, København Syd will see a major increase in departures with the new platforms. Passengers can now reach Copenhagen Airport in approximately 12 minutes—a dramatic improvement from the previous 25–35 minutes. New direct services westward will connect to towns such as Sorø, Næstved, Slagelse, and Nyborg.

These changes coincide with DSB’s new timetable, giving København Syd a central role in the national rail network. The station will now operate as a full InterCity stop, allowing more trains to bypass the heavily congested Copenhagen Central Station.

A Central Hub for Commuters and Travelers

By expanding København Syd, we strengthen its position as a central transport hub with the Metro, S-trains, and now more regional and InterCity trains. On weekdays, DSB will serve the station over 600 times daily,” explains Tony Bispeskov, DSB’s Head of Information.

Metroselskabet emphasizes that the station improvements benefit both passengers and the overall transport system. “The redevelopment of København Syd is a successful collaboration between DSB, Banedanmark, and Metroselskabet. It is delivered on time and on budget. Passengers will find it much easier to navigate, with smoother transfers and more options, unlocking the station’s full potential as a major national hub,” says Mikkel Kjær Jensen, Director at Metroselskabet.
