New route to Tbilisi: Norway’s Norwegian adds Georgia to CPH map
Copenhagen Airport confirmed in a press release that Norwegian will launch a direct route between Copenhagen and Tbilisi in the summer of 2026. The new service will put Georgia — a nation where Europe meets Asia — within easy reach of Danish travellers and the wider Nordic market.
“We are excited that Norwegian is adding a new destination from Copenhagen. Georgia is an intriguing destination on the edge of Europe and Asia with a rich culture and fantastic cuisine,” said Peter Krogsgaard, Commercial Director at Copenhagen Airport. The move reflects growing interest in off-the-beaten-track European destinations and the appetite among Nordic travellers for cultural and culinary experiences beyond traditional city breaks.
Tbilisi has become an increasingly popular destination in recent years, known for its dramatic mountain backdrop, centuries-old architecture, and a burgeoning food and wine scene. From natural wines to mountain villages and a lively capital, Georgia’s mix of affordability and authenticity has drawn backpackers, food lovers and culture-seekers alike.
What this means for travellers and businesses
The nonstop connection will shorten travel times, simplify logistics for visiting trade fairs and cultural events, and encourage two-way tourism. For travel operators and city tourism boards, a direct link often translates into more packaged tours, business travel and seasonal city breaks — all of which benefit hotels, restaurants and regional tourism economies.
Ho Chi Minh City — a new bridge to Southeast Asia
Separately, Vietnam Airlines and Danish partners have been rolling out plans to strengthen ties between Vietnam and the Nordic region. The flag carrier announced it will launch nonstop flights between Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and Copenhagen (CPH) beginning December 15, 2025 — representing the first direct link between Vietnam and Denmark.
The service will operate three times weekly on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, shaving long transfer times and offering a comfortable, long-haul experience. Scheduled departures from Ho Chi Minh City are at 22:45 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with return flights leaving Copenhagen at 10:50 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Vietnam Airlines used a Copenhagen-hosted tourism promotion event to sign multiple cooperation agreements with Danish partners, covering strategic marketing, package tour development and infrastructure coordination with Copenhagen Airport. These deals aim to boost two-way tourism and create more structured travel products that appeal to Nordic travellers seeking Southeast Asian experiences.
Why the timing matters
Both route launches come at a time when international travel markets are diversifying. Airlines and airports are targeting thinner but high-potential city pairs — destinations that combine cultural interest with growing outbound demand. For Copenhagen, these additions reinforce the airport’s role as a Northern European hub with convenient access to Scandinavia and beyond.
