Four years since the launch of the new generation, the first solely under the Cupra brand, albeit closely tied to the Seat model, the new Cupra Leon undergoes a complete transformation.

While retaining the platform and chassis, both the design and features are entirely fresh.

Expanding Powertrain Options

With eight powertrain options for both models and a remarkable nine for the hatchback version, the most athletic of them all, the new Cupra Leon introduces a broader range of choices to meet various driving preferences.

The new Cupra Leon offers eight distinct engines, nine for the hatchback, which also includes the 300 HP 2.0 TSI engine with front-wheel drive.

The base model features a 1.5 TSI engine producing 150 HP with a six-speed manual transmission. The range extends to the 2.0 TSI engine, available in:

  • 204 HP with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4Drive all-wheel drive;
  • 265 HP with automatic transmission and front-wheel drive;
  • 333 HP with DSG and 4Drive.

The 333 HP model represents the top-of-the-line variant, boasting a 33 HP increase over its predecessor and incorporating features such as the Torque Splitter and optional Akebono braking system, inherited from the 390 HP VZ5.

Hybrid options include the mild hybrid 1.5 TSI engine with 150 HP and two PHEV variants based on the 1.5 TSI engine, delivering power outputs from 204 to 272 HP. In both cases, the 19.7 kWh battery now offers 100 km of WLTP cycle autonomy and supports up to 50 kW DC fast charging.

Rounding off the lineup is the 150 HP 2.0 TDI diesel engine, hard to see in Scandinavia (especially Norway).

The Design of the New Cupra Leon

The design philosophy behind the new Cupra Leon aims to captivate, with a dynamic interplay of lights and shadows.

Whether in the 5-door version or the wagon, the DNA is entirely revamped, boasting a stronger character and enhanced sportiness. Inspired by the brand’s new design language, as previewed by the Cupra Tavascan unveiled in late 2023, the front fascia draws inspiration from shark noses, emphasizing its aggression, while triangular LED matrix headlights and a large front grille further reinforce its bold stance.

Moving to the rear, the signature Coast to Coast lights, a distinctive feature since the model’s inception, now incorporate a 3D effect and integrate the illuminated logo. The tailgate design adopts a “V” shape to harmonize with the car’s pronounced side contours. The muscular and two-tone bumper exudes sophistication, athleticism, and quality, visually lowering the car’s stance.

Interior Refinements

Interior enhancements prioritize quality improvement. The steering wheel features dedicated sport buttons, standard in DSG versions, maximizing control and ease of use. The enveloping sport seats offer increased comfort and stability for a top-tier driving experience.

Materials selection not only emphasizes cabin quality but also embraces a more sustainable approach. For instance, the dashboard surfaces utilize a three-dimensional parametric pattern for a unique tactile sensation and visual quality. The redesigned center console features enhanced detailing and materials, while copper accents throughout the cabin, including air vent frames, add a distinctive flair.

Sport seats are upholstered in fabric or can feature 73% recycled microfiber with progressive laser perforations or eco-leather. Furthermore, CUPBucket seats, combining ultra-technical fabric with recycled microfiber and haptic materials, will be available for the Cupra Leon VZ, offering a lower seating position for a more ergonomic and sporty driving experience.

Cupra has undergone significant digitalization, introducing an enhanced human-machine interface implemented in the digital instrument cluster and the new infotainment system with a larger 12.9-inch display and backlit slider. Climate control is seamlessly integrated into the main screen, consolidating vehicle functions and assistants, merging digital and physical interactions.

Additionally, the new Cupra Leon integrates an optional high-fidelity audio system with 12 speakers developed in collaboration with Sennheiser Mobility. The powerful 390-watt system envelops both driver and passengers in a unique auditory experience, leveraging Sennheiser’s Ambeo Concerto software to separate musical components and redistribute them throughout the cabin.
