Land Rover Classic pays tribute to one of the most iconic figures of the 20th century with the launch of the Classic Defender V8 Churchill Edition, a limited series of just ten examples inspired by the Land Rover Series I presented to Sir Winston Churchill for his 80th birthday in 1954.

The idea came from authorized Classic retailer Emil Frey, the current owner of the original “UKE 80” — the Series I that belonged to the statesman and is now preserved at the Emil Frey Classics Museum in Switzerland.

As it was, where it was (almost)

The Churchill Edition immediately stands out with its Bronze Green paint, faithfully replicated by the specialists at Classic Works and applied also to the 16″ steel wheels and the central console trim.

At the front, the model features a galvanized bumper, a mesh grille and matte-black headlight surrounds, while the historic “UKE 80” decal appears on the front wings. A dedicated plaque at the rear highlights the model’s exclusivity, accompanied by unpainted galvanized protective elements.

Inside, seats and grab handles are trimmed in Bridge of Weir semi-aniline Bottle Green leather, matched with a Windsor Ebony headliner. The dashboard is fitted with an exclusive clock — a blue dial with a red stripe — inspired by the Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill champagne.

The Churchill Edition is offered as 90 and 110 Station Wagon models and as a 90 Soft Top. The Soft Top features a tailor-made canvas roof inspired by the final “classic” Defender built at Solihull in 2016: side and rear panels can be unfastened and rolled up for open-air driving, while additional anchoring points ensure solidity even at highway speeds.

My dear V8 engine

All Classic Defender V8s are powered by the 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine, producing 405 hp and 515 Nm of torque, paired with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission.

On-road dynamics are refined by upgraded suspension with Eibach springs and Bilstein dampers, revised anti-roll bars, a re-engineered recirculating-ball steering system and enhanced Alcon brakes.
