After months of teasers, controversy over its new brand identity and a long pause in sales, Jaguar has revealed the car that is meant to define its future. The Type 01 is a fully electric four-door luxury GT, designed, engineered and built in the UK, and the first production car on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA).
The name sums up the plan. “Type” nods to famous ancestors such as the E-type, “0” stands for zero tailpipe emissions and “1” marks the first of a new generation. Orders are due to open in early 2027, with first deliveries in the second half of the year. Prices have not been announced.
The most powerful Jaguar road car ever
The numbers are big. Three electric motors, one at the front and two at the rear, deliver up to 1,030 hp and 1,365 Nm, making the Type 01 the most powerful road-going Jaguar in history. It reaches 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, but Jaguar is keener to talk about overtaking power: 100 to 180 km/h takes just 4.0 seconds.

Experience from the brand’s Jaguar TCS Racing Formula E team has been used to refine the car’s character.

Despite the power, Jaguar’s focus is on the classic GT recipe: comfort and composure. The Type 01 has 50:50 weight distribution, air suspension, all-wheel steering with up to six degrees of rear-wheel angle, and bespoke Pirelli P Zero tyres. Jaguar describes the result as two characters in one car: a relaxed long-distance cruiser and a sharp driver’s car.
Built for long trips
A 118 kWh usable battery and an 850-volt architecture give an expected WLTP range of up to 720 km. More usefully, Jaguar also quotes a motorway figure: up to 515 km at a constant 120 km/h. At a 350 kW DC charger, the Type 01 can add 321 km of range in 13 minutes, or charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 22 minutes.

On 400-volt chargers it can still take up to 250 kW, and there are AC charging ports on both sides of the car.

Aerodynamics play a big part. With a drag coefficient of 0.23, the Type 01 is the most aerodynamic Jaguar ever, helped by active front vanes and a three-stage deployable rear spoiler, developed in more than 7,000 wind tunnel tests.

Design without compromise
The Type 01 is the first production car to follow Jaguar’s new Exuberant Modernism design philosophy. At 5.24 metres long and just 1.40 metres tall, it has a long bonnet, a short front overhang and standard 23-inch wheels. The distance between the front axle and the front door, a classic Jaguar trait, is 898 mm, almost the same proportion as on the E-type. There is no rear window: a solid tailgate gives the car its monolithic look, with a camera-based rear-view display replacing the mirror.

Inside, a central spine runs the length of the cabin, dividing it into four individual seats. The driver faces a 24-inch OLED display, with a 7-inch touchscreen for climate and audio controls. The boot holds more than 450 litres, rising to 1,000 litres with the rear seats folded.
Our take: ready for a Nordic winter?
For Nordic buyers, the details that matter most are not in the headlines. Jaguar says its ThermAssist thermal system works between -40 and +40 °C, moving heat between battery, motors and cabin. Waste heat from the motors can be captured to warm the cabin or battery, with up to 3.5 kW of heating for every 1 kW of recovered energy, and on freezing mornings the system can draw energy from the ambient air to help warm the battery. The battery can be preconditioned before charging, the flush door handles can push through 4 mm of ice, and Pirelli will offer winter tyres. On paper, the Type 01 is better prepared for Scandinavian winters than many luxury EVs.
The bigger question is whether buyers will follow Jaguar into its new era. Managing director Rawdon Glover calls the Type 01 the foundation of the brand. With a powertrain and range that compete with the best, the car looks convincing. Its success will depend on price, and on whether the bold design wins over buyers or puts them off.
