Citroën Racing has revealed the final livery of its GEN4 car for Season 13 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the season in which the new generation of single-seaters makes its competitive debut. At the same time, the French team has reshaped its leadership, with Beth Paretta becoming Team Principal and Frédéric Espinos joining as Competition Director and Deputy Team Principal.

The changes follow a promising first campaign. Citroën finished its maiden Formula E season fifth in the Teams’ Championship, with a race win, several podiums, a pole position and an award for its visual identity. The goal for year two is to build on those foundations and take another step forward.

Evolution, not revolution

Rather than starting from scratch, Citroën has chosen to develop the look that won praise in Season 12. Blue, white and red remain at the core of the design, while the brand’s chevrons now carry more movement to match the sharper lines of GEN4. Blue takes on a bigger role, especially on the nose, giving the car a signature that should be easy to spot on the grid.

The livery comes from the same Citroën Design teams who shape the brand’s road cars, a deliberate link between showroom and racetrack. Head of Citroën Design Pierre Leclercq explains that the aim was to keep last season’s strong identity while adapting it to the more dynamic character of the new car. More metallic finishes are meant to make the car “come to life when it catches the light”.

Even the paint has to be light

On GEN4, every gram counts, and that includes the livery. The team worked to keep the weight of the wrap to a minimum. The colour gradient is built on a parametric pattern of chevrons whose density gradually changes between shades, creating smooth transitions without adding extra layers of material. In its own way, the design reflects the GEN4 philosophy: identity, innovation and efficiency down to the smallest detail.

The car itself marks a major leap in performance for Formula E:

GEN4 Key figures
Race power 450 kW
Qualifying and Attack Mode 600 kW (815 hp)
0–100 km/h 1.8 seconds
Top speed More than 335 km/h
Energy regeneration 700 kW
Aero modes High Downforce and Low Downforce
Drive Permanent all-wheel drive

The Citroën Racing GEN4 will be shown in its final livery for the first time at the Paris Motor Show, in Hall 4.

Paretta steps up to Team Principal

Beth Paretta served as Managing Director throughout the team’s first season, and her promotion ensures continuity as the programme enters the GEN4 era. She knows the championship from the inside, having previously been Vice President of Sporting at Formula E, working with teams, manufacturers and the FIA.

Her career also includes senior roles at Volkswagen Group, Aston Martin and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, where she became the first woman to lead both a performance brand and the group’s global motorsport activities. In 2021 she founded Paretta Autosport, which made a historic debut at the Indianapolis 500 with women making up more than 65 percent of its workforce.

Espinos brings Formula E experience

Frédéric Espinos has been involved in Formula E since its earliest days. He first worked on the championship within the FIA, then spent several seasons as Sporting Director of the series itself. In 2022 he joined ABT on its return to Formula E, starting as Sporting Director and later becoming Deputy Team Principal of Lola Yamaha ABT during four seasons with the team.
