At the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, alongside the Denza Z (read here about), the Chinese giant also unveiled the new BYD Seal 06 DM-i Wagon—a brand-new plug-in hybrid station wagon that expands the Ocean Series lineup, marking the first time such a body style has been offered in this range.

The wagon follows the success of the Seal 06 DM-i Sedan, a three-box model that has sold over 220,000 units in China since May 2025. The Wagon may also be headed to Europe, where estate cars tend to be more popular than sedans.

BYD Seal 06 DM-i Wagon: hybrid and versatile

The Seal 06 DM-i Wagon retains the Ocean Series’ sleek, ocean-inspired lines but features an extended rear section to provide more generous cargo space.

Its dimensions are generous: 4.8 meters long, 1.89 meters wide, 1.5 meters tall, with a 2.7-meter wheelbase. This makes it an ideal choice for families and those needing extra room, without sacrificing the elegance of a sleek silhouette.

Under the hood, the new wagon is powered by BYD’s 1.5-liter BYD472QC engine producing 74 kW, paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor available in two outputs: 120 kW or 160 kW. The energy is stored in an LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery that also supports DC fast charging.

The Seal 06 DM-i Wagon will be available in two versions:

  • One with 53 km of electric-only range (CLTC cycle),

  • And a more powerful version with 83 km of range.

Both use BYD’s efficient fifth-generation DM-i hybrid system, known for its low fuel consumption and smooth driving experience.

Also coming: a fully electric variant

Also arriving in the second quarter is the Seal 06 EV, the fully electric version of the sedan. It measures 4.7 meters in length, 1.8 meters in width, and 1.4 meters in height, with a 2.8-meter wheelbase. It will be offered with two single-motor options110 kW and 160 kW—manufactured in different production facilities, and will carry the same base price as the wagon: 120,000–150,000 yuan, or about €14,000–€16,000
