OnePlus has unveiled OxygenOS 16, described by the company as its “most significant software breakthrough ever.” The new OS promises to set fresh standards in smartphone intelligence and performance, combining advanced AI with a fast, fluid user experience and deeper cross-device integration.

“By combining revolutionary AI with industry-leading performance, we’re delivering an experience that’s both deeply personal and incredibly powerful,” said Arthur Lam, Director of OxygenOS and AI Strategy at OnePlus.

When It’s Coming

The Open Beta for OxygenOS 16 starts October 17, letting enthusiasts test new features before the stable release. The OnePlus 15 will be the first device to ship with OxygenOS 16; the OS will roll out gradually to other OnePlus devices beginning in November.

Smarter than ever: Plus Mind

At the heart of OxygenOS 16 is Plus Mind, an AI system that recognises and organises what appears on your screen into a central hub called Mind Space.

Plus Mind can be reached with the Plus Key or a three-finger swipe up, and the Plus Key is fully customisable to launch shortcuts like screenshots, torch, camera, voice recording, Do Not Disturb and sound profiles.

  • Voice Note — Hold the Plus Key to record up to 60 seconds. The AI generates a title and a written transcription saved in Mind Space.
  • Smart Collections — Similar items are grouped automatically to keep content organised.
  • Gemini Integration — Google’s Gemini can connect to Mind Space to provide personalised assistance and suggestions based on the user’s stored data.

AI Productivity Suite

OxygenOS 16 spreads AI across the entire system with tools designed to boost productivity and creativity.

  • AI Writer — Advanced tools to help create and refine written content.
  • Smart Captions — Upload a photo and the AI suggests a caption automatically, ideal for social sharing.
  • Text to Mind Map & Table — Convert outlines into visual mind maps or structured tables.
  • AI Scan — Use the camera as an intelligent scanner.
  • AI Portrait Glow & AI Perfect Shot — Improve portrait lighting and optimise images automatically.
  • AI PlayLab — Early access to experimental features such as YumSee (text-to-image) and Party Up (image-to-video).
  • AI Recorder Assistant — Generates titles and concise summaries for recordings and reduces background noise to highlight voices.

Performance and Connectivity

OnePlus says OxygenOS 16 introduces technologies that raise the bar for responsiveness and smoothness on mobile devices.

Parallel Processing 2.0 makes the UI feel extremely fluid by starting animations before previous actions finish — enabling fast app switching and even uninterrupted gaming during video calls. Seamless Cross-Ecosystem Connectivity improves sharing and integration with Windows and macOS and enhances compatibility with Apple devices, including Apple Watch notifications, remote camera control, and cross-platform health data syncing.

New imaging tools include Collage and Slow-motion features, plus a full video editor that lets users trim, split, merge, change speed, add music, and convert formats — as well as Motion Photo support.

Design and Personalization

OxygenOS 16 brings a lighter, more intuitive interface with smooth animations and a refreshed design language that uses Gaussian blur, rounded corners and translucent panels across Quick Settings, the home screen and the app drawer.

  • Flux Theme 2.0 — Dynamic themes with Motion Photos and advanced video background effects.
  • Fluid Cloud — An interactive hub that pulls live updates from third-party apps (e.g., music, delivery, or sports results).

Security and Privacy

Private Computing Cloud is presented as the first full-chain Android security solution with enhanced GPU and CPU protection. OnePlus says sensitive data remains protected in the cloud while preserving user privacy.

  • Call to Lock — If your phone is lost, contact OnePlus support to lock it remotely; the device becomes unusable to anyone but the rightful owner. The system limits hardware-button responses to block forced shutdowns.
  • SIM Lock — The phone auto-locks if the SIM is removed without authorization.

Optimized for Tablets

OxygenOS 16 is optimised for OnePlus tablets with a revamped home screen, scalable icons and a dock supporting up to 18 apps. Open Canvas improves multitasking with up to five apps at once (three in split-view plus two floating windows) and lets the tablet control a Windows PC with a virtual trackpad and drag-&-drop file transfer.
