Hyundai is set to lift the curtain on its next entry-level electric model when the Ioniq 2 concept rolls into IAA Mobility in Munich on September 6, 2025.
Billed as a compact, coupé-inspired crossover, we can preview a budget-friendly EV aimed at buyers who find today’s electric cars a touch too expensive—yet still want meaningful range and modern tech.
Ioniq 2 concept: above Inster, below Ioniq 5/6
The Ioniq 2 is expected to slot above Hyundai’s ultra-compact Inster, serving as a more versatile everyday car while maintaining a sharpened focus on affordability. If the production car follows the concept closely, it could become Hyundai’s new gateway to the Ioniq family.
According to latest rumors, the production will start in 2026 with a starting price of about 30,000 € (225,000 DKK).
Hyundai plans to base the Ioniq 2 on the company’s E-GMP architecture configured in a compact 400-V version to keep costs down without sacrificing capability. This means that the car will share the configuration with the successful Kia EV3, with two battery options of 58 and 81 kWh and a range up to 600 km.

Spy shots and teasers suggest a swoopy, coupé-like silhouette with a low stance that faintly echoes the spirit of the Hyundai Veloster. Up front, expect headlamps reminiscent of the updated Ioniq 6, helping visually link the newcomer to Hyundai’s latest design language.
Inside, the concept points to a minimalist cabin anchored by a wide, continuous display panel. Hyundai is also exploring the integration of its upcoming AI assistant and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability so the car can power external devices—turning the Ioniq 2 into a mobile power hub when needed. Technically, the Ioniq 2 is expected to be a sister model to the Kia EV2. Hyundai’s version is the one stepping into the spotlight in Munich, following earlier concept showings this year.
If Hyundai can hit the proposed price while delivering meaningful range and modern features, the Ioniq 2 could immediately rank among the most compelling compact EVs in its class. It’s poised to take on emerging rivals such as the VW ID.2X and Renault 4 E-Tech, bringing fresh competitive energy to the “people’s EV” segment.
