Google is preparing a significant redesign of its Android digital wallet, Google Wallet, aiming to make the interface more compact and user-friendly. The update is designed to optimize space, display more cards at a glance, and prioritize the items users access most frequently.

Streamlined layout for cards and passes
Currently, Google Wallet shows payment cards at the top of the screen, followed by a long vertical list of loyalty cards, transit tickets, and other passes. According to a teardown of the latest app APK by Android Authority, the upcoming redesign will introduce a more compact layout, reducing the need for scrolling and making the wallet easier to navigate.
The new interface keeps payment cards at the top but organizes passes into a two-column layout. A “View more” button is expected to appear at the bottom of the screen to access additional items that don’t fit in the main view.
A notable addition in the redesign is a star-shaped “favorites” button. Users will be able to pin up to four cards or passes to the top of the wallet for quick access, while all other items remain behind the “View more” button. This change is aimed at keeping the interface cleaner and more efficient, especially as users continue to add diverse items to their digital wallets.
Timeline still unclear
While the redesign is present in the app’s code, it has not yet been rolled out to users. Google has not provided details on when—or if—the updated UI will be widely distributed, nor whether any changes might occur before release.
Despite these uncertainties, the redesign promises to improve the overall Google Wallet experience, offering a more visual and customizable way to manage cards and passes. Android users eager for a cleaner, more organized digital wallet will likely welcome the update once it becomes available.
