Anticipated by the Ford Pro Electric Supervan concept, the Ford E-Transit Custom MS-RT, while not reaching that level, is the most powerful van the American manufacturer has ever produced, and it’s not even sold in the United States.

Indeed, it’s intended for the European market, but some American media outlets haven’t taken it well and have listed it among the reasons to move to Europe, alongside art and gastronomy. Certainly a niche vehicle, it harks back to Ford’s tradition of the Sixties and Seventies, a truly American one, of the Supervans, designed for racing, but here in an electric key.

The features of the Ford E-Transit Custom MS-RT

The launch color, emerald green, recalls the brand’s sports cars. The vehicle is part of a series called MS-RT, which includes high-performance versions of both the Ford Ranger and the non-electric Transit Custom.

According to Ford, these are models born to bring “motorsport-inspired productivity” to the road. Furthermore, all these models have been developed in collaboration with the M-Sport rally division, and for this reason, they enjoy improvements both in performance and aesthetics.

Starting with the power: The Ford E-Transit Custom MS-RT has a 210 kW electric motor, which delivers 280 horsepower, which drops to 170 horsepower in the version with the 2.0 EcoBoost, and to 230 horsepower for the plug-in hybrid version.

There’s also updated independent rear suspension, and the width has been increased by over 5 cm, to accommodate dedicated Goodyear Eagle Sport tires, lowered suspension, and 19” alloy wheels.

Inside, on the other hand, all the necessary comforts, including dual-zone automatic climate control, digital rear-view camera, parking assistance, cruise control, and everything else normally found on a van.

Only, with significantly better finishes: there’s the MS-RT logo embroidered on the headrest, and upholstery in a mix of leather and suede-like material, for greater comfort and sportiness just like on all the other sporty models of Ford.

There are also contrasting blue stitching, another typical color of models like the lamented Focus RS, which returns on the steering wheel, and which echoes the blue of the visible brake calipers.
