Public transport users across Denmark will see modest fare adjustments early next year. Starting Sunday, January 18, 2026, prices for travel by bus, train, light rail, and metro will rise by an average of 1%, reflecting increasing societal costs and ensuring continued investment in the transport system.

The annual adjustment is carried out by DOT – Din Offentlige Transport, the collaboration between Movia, Metroselskabet, Letbanen and DSB. Each year, DOT updates prices within a framework set by the Danish Transport Authority, which has capped average fare increases at 1% for 2026 — a limit DOT says it is adhering to fully.

A small increase to maintain a stable transport system

According to Stine Sander, Commercial Director at Movia and Chair of DOT, the focus has been on keeping changes minimal and transparent.

“We know our customers want travel to be simple and fairly priced. That’s why we’ve spread the price adjustments as evenly as possible, ensuring that the vast majority of journeys only become a few kroner more expensive,” Sander says.

DOT emphasizes that the adjustments are necessary to balance rising operational costs while enabling further investments in customer experience — including digital solutions and more seamless journeys.

“When we adjust fares, we do so carefully. The goal is to maintain financial stability and continue investing in improvements for passengers,” Sander adds.
