OnePlus is reportedly trialing a new flat display panel with a 165Hz refresh rate and 1.5K resolution. In a twist on the usual playbook, the company is said to be preparing to introduce the technology on a mid-range device first, rather than a flagship. The move would mark a strategic shift in how OnePlus rolls out bleeding-edge screen hardware to its lineup.

What’s Being Tested

  • Panel: Flat display, 1.5K resolution
  • Refresh rate: 165Hz for ultra-smooth motion
  • Touch system: Upgraded touch IC for faster, more accurate input

High refresh rates at 165Hz are typically reserved for gaming-centric phones or top-tier flagships. If OnePlus brings this to a mid-ranger first, it could broaden access to premium-feeling responsiveness without the flagship price tag.

The likely candidate: OnePlus Ace 6 and maybe a tablet

According to the leak, the OnePlus Ace 6 is the most probable first recipient of the new display. The device is rumored to launch in China around October and may later arrive globally as the OnePlus 15R. These are the specs:

  • Under-display fingerprint: Ultrasonic sensor
  • Processor: Snapdragon 8-series chipset
  • Build: Metal center frame
  • Screen: Flat 1.5K panel at 165Hz (under testing)
In addition to phones, OnePlus is reportedly developing a tablet that uses the same 165Hz panel technology. While details are sparse, such a device would target gamers and power users who value both smooth scrolling and low-latency touch.

Why a Mid-Range First?

Piloting new screen tech in a mid-range line can help OnePlus validate reliability, power consumption, and thermal behavior at scale. If the results look good, the company could then roll it out to future flagships with confidence.
