Microsoft has officially unveiled the Surface Ultra, a flagship laptop the company describes as the most powerful machine it has ever built. Developed in close collaboration with Nvidia, the device is built around the new RTX Spark system-on-chip, Nvidia’s Arm-based SoC featuring a Blackwell GPU architecture, and represents Microsoft’s opening move in what could reshape the Windows PC landscape.
The Surface Ultra arrives as Nvidia’s RTX Spark breaks Qualcomm’s long-standing grip on non-x86 Windows hardware. With up to 128 GB of unified LPDDR5X memory and a GPU capable of delivering performance comparable to a mobile RTX 5070, the Surface Ultra is positioned squarely against the MacBook Pro — a comparison Microsoft itself is clearly inviting.
RTX Spark is just powerful
The RTX Spark chip at the heart of the device packs 6,144 CUDA cores and a 20-core CPU built on Cortex-X925 and Cortex-A725 architecture. Total system power draw ranges from just a few watts up to a maximum of 80W, making it one of the more efficient high-performance platforms in this class. For AI workloads specifically, the chip delivers one petaflop of compute in FP4, opening the door to serious local model inference, including full support for Nvidia’s CUDA ecosystem.

The Surface Ultra comes in a 15-inch chassis weighing approximately two kilograms, housing a MiniLED PixelSense Ultra panel with touch support and a peak HDR brightness of 2,000 nits. Microsoft has also fitted the largest haptic touchpad ever used on a Surface device.
Where previous Surface laptops often drew criticism for their limited port selection, the Ultra breaks from that tradition entirely. The machine includes USB-A, USB-C, a full-size HDMI output, a dedicated SD card slot, and a 3.5mm audio jack — a connectivity lineup that underscores the productivity-first positioning of the device.
Pricing and Availability
Microsoft has not yet announced pricing, but the Surface Ultra is expected to launch this autumn. Given the hardware specification and the premium tier it occupies, the device is unlikely to be affordably priced. How current macroeconomic pressures and supply chain dynamics will ultimately affect the final retail cost remains to be seen.
