Ford and Renault Group have announced a strategic partnership focused on expanding Ford’s electric vehicle line-up for European customers. The collaboration centers on the co-development of two Ford-branded electric passenger vehicles built on Renault Group’s Ampere platform and manufactured in the North of France at ElectriCity facilities.

The two new models will be designed by Ford and developed with Renault Group’s EV expertise. The companies say the vehicles will combine Ford’s driving dynamics and brand characteristics with the Ampere platform’s efficiencies. The first of the two cars is expected to appear in European showrooms in early 2028.

Light commercial vehicle collaboration

In addition to the passenger cars, Ford and Renault Group have signed a Letter of Intent to investigate a joint collaboration on selected light commercial vehicles (LCVs). Under the LOI, the partners will explore co-development and manufacturing opportunities for Ford- and Renault-branded LCVs aimed at European markets.

The agreement is intended to leverage Renault Group’s Ampere platform, its EV manufacturing ecosystem and the industrial capacity at ElectriCity in northern France. By combining their engineering, design and software capabilities, both companies aim to increase competitiveness and address evolving customer needs in Europe’s rapidly shifting automotive market.

The partners say the collaboration will also draw on decades of experience in the light commercial vehicle segment and the extensive supplier networks of both groups.

The move reflects a wider industry trend of alliances and partnerships as automakers seek scale and efficiency in the transition to electrification. Ford and Renault Group say the collaboration is the first step in a broader product offensive that will be announced over time.
