Xpeng has recently unveiled a teaser for its upcoming electric model, internally known as the Xpeng E29—though this will not be its final name.

The official launch is expected in the second half of 2025, with a debut likely at the Guangzhou Auto Show. This new vehicle marks a significant design shift for the Chinese brand, moving toward a sportier, more performance-focused aesthetic compared to Xpeng’s current lineup of sedans.

Xpeng E29: A More Futuristic Design Direction

Leading the project is Rafik Ferrag, the designer behind the original Xpeng P7. Ferrag joined the company in 2018 and recently shared a preview of the E29’s silhouette on Instagram, confirming his direct involvement in the design.

The teaser and various spy shots reveal a sleek fastback profile—reminiscent of the Polestar 5 from certain angles—and feature standout elements like a full-width rear light bar, flush door handles, frameless side mirrors, and a retractable rear spoiler.

The front and rear styling shares some similarities with the P7+, launched in 2024, but the E29 introduces new features aimed at improving aerodynamic efficiency, underlining the car’s sporty intentions.

The interior has yet to be officially revealed, but leaked spy shots suggest a tech-forward and refined cabin: a large central display, a three-spoke steering wheel with circular controls, and even a potential purple leather upholstery option. At the heart of the user experience will be the latest version of Xpeng’s in-car software, Xmart OS 2.0, offering advanced voice controls and potentially an augmented reality head-up display.

In terms of driver assistance, the E29 could represent a major step forward for Xpeng. Reports suggest it may adopt a fully vision-based ADAS system—eschewing lidar in favor of advanced camera sensors, powered by Xpeng’s next-generation Turing AI chip.

Platform Evolution

While official powertrain details have not yet been released, the E29 will be fully electric and is expected to debut on a new architecture dubbed the “Kunpeng” platform. Some analysts speculate that this platform could eventually support range-extended powertrains, although no such configurations have been confirmed yet.

For comparison, the current P7i in dual-motor AWD form delivers up to 348 kW of power and a CLTC-rated range of 702 kilometers. Expectations are that the E29 will match or exceed these figures, positioning itself as the new flagship in the Xpeng lineup.

It’s also possible that the E29 will adopt an official name that ties it more closely to the P7 family. In February 2025, Xpeng filed a trademark application for the name “P7 Ultra,” which is currently under review. If approved, this name would emphasize the model’s connection to both the P7 and P7+, while also presenting it as the most high-performance iteration to date.
