The latest Gran Turismo 7 update is now live, and it’s one of the most exciting yet. Version 1.61 brings legendary performance icons, next-gen AI, and new events designed to enrich the racing experience for both casual players and seasoned sim racers. Headlining the update is the arrival of the NISMO R34 GT-R Z-tune, one of the rarest road-legal cars in history.

Gran Turismo 7 now with the legendary Nismo R34 GT-R Z-tune

Only 19 units of the Z-tune were ever produced by Nissan’s motorsport division, Nismo, making it an automotive unicorn. Originally built in 2005 as a tribute to Nismo’s 20th anniversary, the Z-tune was no ordinary R34. Each model was painstakingly rebuilt from hand-selected, pre-owned R34 GT-Rs that met stringent quality standards.

Under the hood lies the RB26DETT Kai-Z2, a racing-derived powerplant with DNA from Nissan’s GT500 class endurance machines. Components such as IHI turbochargers, forged pistons, and high-strength rods were tested in races like the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, making this version of the GT-R arguably the ultimate street-legal R34 ever conceived.

Thanks to Polyphony Digital, this ultra-rare icon is now accessible to players worldwide in digital form—no millionaire budget required.

Two More Additions: Honda’s Kei Sport and Nissan’s Electric Future

The update doesn’t stop with nostalgic dreams. Two new production cars also join the garage:

  • 2022 Honda N-ONE RS: A featherweight kei car packed with spirit. It introduces a 6-speed manual gearbox, front-wheel drive, and a turbocharged engine—an unusual combo in this category. With its sub-1,000 kg weight and nimble handling, it offers a fresh interpretation of Japanese driving joy, defined by the philosophy of “Road Sailing.”
  • 2022 Nissan Qashqai Tekna e-Power: A family SUV with a cutting-edge twist. Nissan’s e-Power system relies on a combustion engine solely to charge the battery, while drive power comes exclusively from electric motors. The result? Smooth, responsive acceleration and a unique hybrid experience that redefines efficiency.

Gran Turismo Sophy: The new AI Rival

In a major leap forward for sim racing, Gran Turismo Sophy makes its debut in this update. Developed in partnership with Sony AI, this advanced neural network competitor is now available in races on the High Speed Ring.

Unlike traditional AI opponents, Sophy adapts and challenges players with a far more lifelike racing style. Expect smarter overtakes, defensive lines, and an unpredictable edge that mimics real-world racing dynamics.

In addition to new cars and AI features, update 1.61 also delivers:

  • Three new events in the World Circuits mode
  • Fresh locations in Scapes mode for photography lovers
  • A special ANEST IWATA Racing 2025 livery for the 2017 Lexus RC F GT3, linking the game to current motorsport aesthetics
