WeRide, a global autonomous driving technology company, and the Danish car sharing company GreenMobility have announced a strategic partnership to bring autonomous shared mobility services to Denmark, marking WeRide’s first entry into the Nordic region. Pending regulatory approval, the deal positions the two companies as the first to pursue commercial autonomous mobility deployment in the country.
Level 4 autonomous driving Denmark: what the partnership combines
The arrangement pairs WeRide’s globally validated Level 4 autonomous driving technology with GreenMobility’s established local fleet operations and shared mobility expertise. Under the plan, the companies are targeting a public service launch in the first half of 2027, with riders able to request a trip served by the GXR, WeRide’s latest generation, EU compliant, fully self driving vehicle.
Denmark becomes WeRide’s sixth european market
Denmark marks WeRide’s sixth European market, following recent expansion into Spain and Slovakia. The parallel rollout across several markets at once reflects WeRide’s asset light approach to scaling autonomous driving globally, built around partnering with established local mobility operators and fleet owners rather than building out its own local fleet from scratch.
The companies point to Denmark’s advanced digital infrastructure, premium mobility market, strong EV adoption and progressive regulatory environment as reasons the country suits autonomous mobility particularly well. The project will involve the public sector directly, developed in close collaboration with the Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) and the Danish Road Traffic Authority (Færdselsstyrelsen), with all testing and deployment carried out under applicable Danish and EU regulations.

Tony Han, founder and chief executive of WeRide, described the partnership as the company’s first move into the Nordic region and a further milestone in its European expansion, framing the combination of WeRide’s autonomous technology with GreenMobility’s local operating experience as a scalable model for entering new international markets, with the ambition of shaping the future of urban transportation in Denmark.
Kasper Gjedsted, group chief executive of GreenMobility, pointed to the operational experience the company has built across millions of shared car trips in Denmark as the foundation for this next phase, welcoming the chance to pair that experience with what he described as one of the most advanced autonomous driving technologies in the industry.
The scale behind both companies
WeRide’s autonomous driving products currently operate in more than 40 cities across 12 countries, backed by autonomous driving permits in 8 countries and a global Level 4 fleet exceeding 3,000 vehicles. GreenMobility, for its part, runs the largest free floating car sharing network in the Nordic region, with a fleet of more than 1,500 electric vehicles.
