Volvo Cars has decided to concentrate its expertise and resources in Sweden at fewer locations, moving most responsibilities from its Stockholm office to the company’s headquarters in Gothenburg. As a result, the Stockholm office will close on 1 March 2027.
A move toward a more focused organisation
The decision is aimed at creating a more focused and efficient organisation. Volvo Cars says the change will help simplify the business, reduce complexity and increase the speed of cross functional collaboration, strengthening the company’s competitiveness in an increasingly challenging market. The move is also expected to contribute to cost efficiencies supporting Volvo Cars’ long term ambitions.
The Stockholm office’s role in Volvo’s transformation
Volvo Cars originally established the Stockholm office to access key expertise and strengthen important capabilities during a significant phase of the company’s transformation. Since then, the office has played an important role in building expertise in areas such as software development, artificial intelligence and digital customer experiences. Volvo Cars notes that the office has served an important function and that the expertise built up there remains significant for the company.
About 450 employees affected
Around 450 employees are currently based at the Stockholm office. The transition will be carried out gradually until the office closes on 1 March 2027, with Volvo Cars managing the process in close dialogue with employees and employee representatives.
