Scandinavian Airlines  is expanding its long-haul network with the launch of a new year-round SAS Copenhagen-Mumbai route.

Starting June 2, 2026, the airline will offer five weekly nonstop flights on this intercontinental route, using its widebody Airbus A330 aircraft. This strategic move marks SAS’ return to India after nearly two decades and highlights the airline’s ambition to grow its international footprint.

SAS Copenhagen-Mumbai: from the Scandinavian Pearl to the “City of Dreams”

India is a key global marketboth in terms of growing demand and economic importance,” said Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS.With this new route, SAS contributes to strengthening Copenhagen’s role as a global hub while supporting increased connectivity between India and Northern Europe, as well as between India and North America. Mumbai is a natural next step in our strategy to link Scandinavia with one of the world’s most important regions for business and leisure travel.

Mumbai, also known as the “City of Dreams,” is home to over 20 million people and is a major center for commerce, finance, entertainment, and tourism. The new route aims to serve both corporate travelers and leisure passengers, including those interested in India’s rich cultural heritage, vibrant food scene, and growing wellness tourism sector.

SAS has carefully timed the new flight schedule to ensure seamless connections through Copenhagen Airport to major cities across Scandinavia, Europe, and North America — including destinations like New York, Boston, and Toronto. This design allows travelers a smooth transit experience whether heading west or east.

The new Copenhagen–Mumbai route reflects SAS’ broader strategy following its restructuring efforts, positioning itself as a more agile and globally connected airline. It also aligns with its commitment to providing high-quality service and punctual operations. In fact, SAS was recently recognized by aviation analytics firm Cirium as the world’s most punctual airline for two consecutive months.

While the launch is still pending final governmental approvals, the announcement marks a significant milestone for SAS and for air connectivity between Northern Europe and South Asia.
